Bible

Phraseologism: Promised land.

Meaning: 1. A place where someone passionately dreams and aspires to go. 2. An object of passionate desires, aspirations, hopes, etc. 3. A place where contentment, abundance, happiness reign (book high).

Origin: The expression is from the Bible, denoting the promised (Old Slavic promised) land of Palestine, where God, fulfilling his promise, brought the descendants of Abraham - the Jews from Egypt, where they languished in captivity. According to the Bible, God told Moses that He would bring the Jews to "a good and spacious land, where milk and honey flow".

Random phraseology:

The nerve of everything.

Meaning:

Money.

Origin:

From Latin: "Nervus rerum". Literally: "The nerve of things." Such a definition of money is found even among the ancient Greek philosophers - Crantor (III century BC), Bion Boristenit (III century BC), and then among Roman authors (Cicero and others), thanks to whom the expression entered world literature.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Giant Office Display Microsoft Surface Hub 2 18.05.2018

Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Hub 2, the next generation of giant conference room displays. The original Surface Hub, which went on sale in 2016, was 1080p (55-inch) and 4K (84-inch). The new model boasts a 50,5-inch diagonal with even higher resolution than 4K, as well as a 3:2 aspect ratio and very thin bezels.

The new display can be placed in portrait mode. The swivel mechanism on the Surface Hub 2 is similar to the one on the Surface Book. Specifications, release date and cost of the new device are kept secret. We only know that it will go on sale in 2019.
Microsoft has improved not only the hardware, but also the software component of the display. It still works on Windows 10, but allows multiple people to use it at the same time. They approach the screen, log in with a fingerprint sensor, and collect their work into a single joint document.

Surface Hub 2 software is compatible with Microsoft Teams. And the long-range microphone and 4K camera, along with the ability to use the display in portrait mode during video calls, make it feel like you're standing next to a colleague.

Surface Hub 2 is light and flexible enough to be carried between rooms. Office furniture maker Steelcase is set to launch screen stands and wall mounts. It will even be possible to combine four devices into one and get a huge monitor, on different parts of which different content is displayed.
