Star differs from star in glory

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Star differs from star in glory.

Meaning: Celebrities are different, as well as their fame - one owes it to someone else, other people's efforts, influence, etc., the other - to a cheap sensation or "notoriety", and someone is really for his accomplishments, talents deserve both fame and respect .

Origin: From the Bible. In the First Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Corinthians (15:41) it is said: "The glory of the sun is different, the glory of the moon is different, the stars are different, and the star differs from the star in glory." Sometimes there is another version of this expression - in Church Slavonic: "The star is different from the star in glory."

Random phraseology:

Dark people.

Meaning:

About opponents of humanism, democracy.

Origin:

From Latin: "Viri obscuri". From the German medieval satire "Letters of Dark People", which were written as a controversy between the entourage of the German humanist thinker Reuchlin (1455-1522) and his papist opponents Pfeferkorn and others who fought against the ideas of the Renaissance. First, Reuchlin himself published (1514) the essay "Epistolae clarorum virorum", the title of which is usually translated as "Letters of bright people" ("bright" - in a literal translation, more precisely - "famous", "famous"). This essay was written in the form of correspondence and promoted the humanistic ideas of the Renaissance. Later, Reuchlin's like-minded people published Letters from Dark People. These letters, written as if on behalf of the opponents of the humanist, were a subtle mockery of the latter's arguments. Many simple-minded German monks (almost the only literate class at that time) read these letters for a long time as genuine. Reuchlin's enemies, too, at first took these messages at face value, and only then did they see irony in them. As an answer, they published the book "Complaints of dark people", but the deed was done: all their theses and ideas were already ridiculed, and they themselves went down in history under the name "dark people", which became a household name.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Electronic skin that senses touch 05.05.2022

Scientists from Chemnitz and Dresden (Germany) have developed an electronic skin with artificial hairs. The new system mimics the sensitivity of human skin, and can be used to replace damaged skin or create a coating for android robots.

Hairs on the skin help us recognize and anticipate the direction of touch and tactile sensations. But artificial leather is deprived of such an opportunity.

A team of researchers have created extremely sensitive 3D magnetic field sensors that have been used for the e-skin system.

Their approach has allowed the creation of compactly arranged sensor elements that can be mass-produced. Previously, such elements could not be created using modern methods of manufacturing microelectronics.

The core of the system is an anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) sensor. It is designed to detect magnetic fields, for example, in vehicle speed sensors. To compactly place the sensors, the researchers used a "microorigami process" that allows large numbers of AMRs to be combined into 3D structures that generate a magnetic field in three dimensions.

Then the sensors are combined into a single active matrix, where data from each individual element can be read using microelectronics.

The researchers combined 3D magnetic sensors with fine hairs on the skin made of an elastomeric material. When these hairs flex from contact, the position of the magnetic root is detected by the sensors. So the whole system is able to register touches and determine the direction. Practically, every hair on such skin is a full-fledged sensory unit.

Such a development can be applied in the interaction of a person and a robot. For example, a robot can recognize contact with a person in advance, reacting to a touch or a possible collision in a cramped room.
