Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Indian summer.

Meaning: Clear warm days in early autumn.

Origin: There are several versions of the etymology of the combination. According to one of them, the expression is associated with that period in the life of the peasants (the beginning of autumn), when field work ended and women took up household chores: they soaked flax, ruffled it, wove it. According to another version, the combinations of Indian summer, Indian days, Indian cold in the old days had a meaning based on superstition: women have the power to return the seasons back and generally influence the weather. In addition, Indian summer is called a thin, light web that flies through fields and forests and portends a dry autumn. This web is associated with women's barely noticeable gray hair, and the time of warm and fine days with her age, which precedes the elderly and is characterized by relative prosperity.

Random phraseology:

Spinoza.

Meaning:

1. Philosopher. 2. Dancer.

Origin:

In Russia in the 1890th century this word meant not only the name of a famous Dutch philosopher, but also (colloquially) a dashing dancer whose choreographic skill was on the verge of a circus trick. For example, in A.P. Chekhov: "I am not some Spinoza to make a pretzel with my feet" (the story "The Wedding", 1869). The original source is the surname of the Spanish grotesque ballet dancer Leon Espinosa, who in 1872-70. was a member of the ballet troupe of the Bolshoi Theater and was a huge success with the public. Subsequently, his name in the bourgeois and merchant circles of Moscow turned into "Spinoza" and became a household name (90-1632s of the XIX century) for every kind of clever dancer. Of course, the philosopher Benedict Spinoza (1677-XNUMX) has nothing to do with such a "Spinoza".

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
