Business idleness. business bum
Aristophanes
Phraseologism: Business idleness. Business bum.
Meaning: A joke paradox.
Origin: This paradox is found in various formulations by ancient authors. For example, Aristophanes (c. 446-385 BC - "lazy activity" ("Frogs"), Horace (65-8 BC) - "active inaction" (Letters 1, 11, Phaedra (I century AD) - "leisure activities", in Seneca (4-65 AD) "restless inactivity" ("On the peace of the soul", 12), "an idle occupation" (" On the brevity of life ", 11), "inactive business" (ibid., 12). This antithesis, following ancient literature, was assimilated by the world literature of modern times. The founder of the new Danish literature, Ludwig Golberg (1684-1754), belongs to the comedy "Business Loafer" , in imitation of which in Germany in 1743 a comedy by Johann Elias Schlegel (1718-1749) appeared under the same name.

What artist is dying!
Meaning:
About someone's hypocritical behavior (iron.).

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive HIV prevention pills
28.07.2012
Truvada, created by California-based Gilead Sciences, is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and, when combined with safer sex and regular HIV testing, could help slow the spread of a terminal infection. So far, the year of taking the drug is very expensive - about 14 thousand dollars, but in the future the price will constantly decrease.
In one of the Truvada trials, people who were sexually active but not infected with the virus experienced 44% fewer infections than a group of people who took a placebo. Among people taking the drug regularly, there were 73-75% fewer infections.
The drug also has side effects similar to those that people experience when infected with HIV: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache and weight loss. However, if all prescriptions are observed, these phenomena are insignificant and not hazardous to health.
Truvada should help bring down the number of new HIV infections, which have hovered around 50000 a year in the US in recent years. The US HIV/AIDS strategy calls for a 2015% reduction in new infections by 25. Currently, experts are developing a strategy for the use of Truvada on a nationwide scale and hope that the new drug will effectively combat the spread of an incurable disease.
