Lady, pleasant in every way
Gogol N.V.
Phraseologism: A lady who is pleasant in every way.
Meaning: Quoted as a playful compliment or comment about someone, as well as a paraphrase, for example, "a thought pleasant in all respects" (about an obedient executive branch, a "pocket", "manual" parliament), "a press pleasant in all respects" (about a corrupt or obedient seal), etc.
Origin: From the poem (parts 1, 9) "Dead Souls" (1842) by N.V. Gogol (1809-1852): wear it, and will certainly be angry... Therefore, we will call the lady, to whom the guest came, as she was called almost unanimously in the city of N, precisely the lady pleasant in all respects. , spared nothing in order to become amiable to the last degree, although, of course, through amiability she sneaked, oh, what a nimble agility of a female character!
Random phraseology:
Life after life.
Meaning:
1. On the hypothesis of existence beyond the grave. 2. About the continuation of life in one form or another (deeds, works of art, etc.).
Origin:
From English: Life after Life. From the title of the book (1975) by the American resuscitator Raymond Moody (b. 1944) - "Life after life: a study of the phenomenon of continuation of life after the death of the body." He wrote it based on the stories of his patients who survived clinical death and were brought back to life. |

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
Petgugu Global cat litter
15.04.2024
Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>
The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive Genetic analogue of the transistor
14.04.2013
The biological device was called a "transcriptor" after the name of the synthesis of RNA molecules based on DNA. It is this process that is the useful output of the genetic transistor. From several such devices, scientists managed to create a set of primitive logic gates: AND, AND-NOT, OR, and others.
Transcription in cells is carried out by enzymes of the class of DNA-dependent RNA polymerases. They sequentially move along the DNA chain, creating an RNA molecule on its basis. To control the work of the polymerase, scientists added terminator regions to the DNA chain, which cause the dissociation of the enzyme from DNA and the cessation of synthesis.
The control mechanism (analogous to the gate voltage in a field-effect transistor) is the possibility of changing the orientation of the terminators - to stop transcription, or to pass the polymerase. For switching, integrase enzymes are used, which are able to cut and paste sections of DNA.
Cascades of "transcriptors" allowed researchers to amplify the work of genes that cause cell fluorescence. It was by the luminosity of various cells that scientists in the process of experiments understood which of them correctly worked out the laid down logical scheme.
In the future, new biological devices could help build genetic computers. Various advances in the field of biological informatics have been previously reported. So, scientists were able to develop genetic relays, DNA memory modules and a way to encode messages using biological objects.
