My native country is wide

Lebedev-Kumach V.I.
Lebedev-Kumach V.I.

Phraseologism: Broad is my native land.

Meaning: Usually about the Soviet Union.

Origin: From "Songs about the Motherland" (1936), written by Isaac Dunayevsky to the verses of the poet Vasily Ivanovich Lebedev-Kumach (real name - Lebedev) (1898-1949) for the film "Circus" (1936, director Grigory Alexandrov): "Wide is my native country , // There are many forests, fields and rivers in it, // I don’t know another such country, // Where a person breathes so freely.

Random phraseology:

You need such a cow yourself!

Meaning:

about unwillingness to sell, give, give something to someone.

Origin:

From the poem "How an old man sold a cow" by Sergei Mikhalkov (1913-2009). The simple-hearted old man turned out to be a bad salesman, because he could not praise his product at all. But it turned out great for one guy who took pity on the owner of the cow and decided to help him communicate with customers. The old man listened to how this voluntary assistant praised his cow, and he himself believed in its non-existent virtues. And I thought about selling it. In the original: "The old man looked at his cow: // - Why am I selling you, Burenka? // I won't sell my cow to anyone, // I need such a beast myself!"

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Satellite constellation of 1600 devices 18.02.2014

NewSpace Global Analysts, based on "trusted sources in the space industry," forecasts that 160 Skybox-like spacecraft will be launched in the near future. Subsequently, the satellite constellation will increase 10 times - up to 1600 satellites.

The creation of a large constellation of 1600 satellites has not yet been officially confirmed and so far resembles the 1990s Teledesic project. During this project, it was planned to create a network of 840 satellites in low Earth orbit, providing broadband Internet access. Large businessmen were involved in the financing of this project, in particular Craig McCaw, Bill Gates, Paul Allen and others. However, the Teledesic project, like the creation of a constellation of satellites for the Globalstar and Iridium telephone network, failed due to the rapid growth of alternative terrestrial telecommunications services.

However, many satellites in low earth orbits are required to provide high-resolution imagery of any particular region of the Earth that is frequently repeated. The more satellites, the more often the same areas will be surveyed. At the same time, the demand for such shooting is growing both in the state and in the commercial spheres.

Google is currently a major investor in the deployment of the NSG 100 O3b Networks satellite constellation, which launched its first broadband satellites in late 2013. This project is focused on expanding the market for communication services in developing countries, which is reflected in the name of the project: Other 3 billion, that is, "Other 3 billion".

Skybox satellite. Perhaps in the near future, a large private company will launch a constellation of 1600 such satellites into low Earth orbit.

A subsidiary of Google Ventures LLC recently announced plans to lease a hangar at the U.S. military-civilian Federal Airfield, Mofette. According to the company's official statement, the hangar will be used "for research, testing, assembly and development of new technologies related to space and aviation activities."

It is possible that a new private space constellation will include not only telecommunications satellites, but also spacecraft designed for remote sensing of the Earth (ERS). The market and opportunities for remote sensing technologies are constantly growing. In particular, Planet Labs Inc. launched its first Flock constellation of 28 remote sensing satellites from the International Space Station. Skybox Imaging plans to have its own constellation of 24 satellites and recently announced a joint production of 13 satellites with Space Systems/Loral (SS/L).
