Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Vitamin D3 supports the heart 14.04.2016

Scientists from the University of Leeds in the UK have shown that taking vitamin D3 regularly helps people with heart failure maintain heart function.

The study involved 160 people diagnosed with heart failure and already treated with various methods, including the use of beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors and pacemakers. All patients were divided into two groups: one took vitamin D3, the other - placebo. The experiment lasted one year.

Changes in the work of the heart were measured using ultrasound of the heart (echocardiogram). The method allows you to determine how much blood the heart pumps out with each beat - this indicator is called the cardiac output fraction. In a healthy person, this figure is 60-70%. In patients with heart failure, it is significantly lower, the average in study participants, for example, was 26%.

After a year of taking the vitamin, the average indicator increased by 6%, in the control group there were no significant changes. Thus, scientists conclude that vitamin D3 has a positive effect on heart function.
