What do you have, whatever you miss, there is nothing!

Bulgakov M.A.
Bulgakov M.A.

Phraseologism: What do you have, whatever you miss, there is nothing!

Meaning: Phrase-response to the denial of something (jokingly-iron.).

Origin: Woland's words from the novel (ch. 3 "The Seventh Proof") "The Master and Margarita" (1940) by Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov (1891-1940). The mysterious "professor of black magic" was irritated by a conversation with the critic Berlioz and the poet Ivan Bezdomny, which took place on one of the benches near the Patriarch's Ponds. First, his interlocutors announced that there is no God, then they said that the Gospels were also devoid of historical content, and finally, they declared that there was no devil either. To which Woland “laughed so that a sparrow fluttered out of a linden over the heads of those sitting. “Well, this is positively interesting,” the professor said, shaking with laughter, “what is it with you, whatever you miss, there’s nothing!” He stopped laughing suddenly and, which is quite understandable in a mental illness, after laughing he fell into another extreme - he became irritated and shouted sternly: - So, then, is it really not? (Bulgakov M.A. Collected works: In 5 vols. M., 1992. Vol. 5).

Random phraseology:

Objective reality given to us in sensation.

Meaning:

About some immutable fact, about reality (jokingly-iron.).

Origin:

From the work "Materialism and Empiriocriticism" (1909) by V. I. Lenin (1870-1924), who defined matter: "Matter is an objective reality given to us in sensation ..."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The danger of antiseptics 09.07.2020

The use of antiseptics containing methanol can lead to serious illness and even death.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), cases of skin antiseptic poisoning have increased significantly in recent years. Some samples of skin preparations tested positive for methanol contamination during the study. This substance is known to be toxic and can cause poisoning if it comes into contact with it through the skin or mucous membranes of the body.

American experts have uncovered several cases of methanol poisoning, which led to blindness and even death. The FDA recommends that consumers stop buying dangerous antiseptics and seek medical attention at the first sign of poisoning. Methanol can cause nausea, headache, partial or complete loss of vision, convulsions, and large doses can lead to coma or death.

Children are most at risk of methanol poisoning, as they may accidentally ingest skin antiseptic. The Bureau also reminded of the need to wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after visiting public places, using the toilet, sneezing and before eating.
