The devil pulled the tongue

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: The devil pulled his tongue.

Meaning: Someone completely inappropriate, in vain said something.

Origin: In the old days, beliefs about devils and other evil spirits that harm a person were widespread. So, they believed that a person who, unwillingly, let it slip or uttered rudeness to someone, did this not of his own free will, but at the "instigation of the devil", who "pulled" his tongue.

Random phraseology:

Places are not so remote.

Meaning:

Far from the center of the territory, places of exile (often ironic).

Origin:

An expression from Russian legislation before 1917, in which this expression appeared as an official term. According to the law, exile to Siberia was of two types, which corresponded to a more severe and less severe type of punishment: the first was to send the offender "to remote places in Siberia", the second - "to not so remote places in Siberia." The wording has firmly entered the Russian language in the second half of the XNUMXth century. Later, these words began to be used as if by inertia - in relation to no longer exile, but to imprisonment.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Maternal laughter and child health 16.02.2008

In one of the hospitals in Osaka (Japan), an experiment was conducted: a group of nursing mothers were shown films by Charlie Chaplin, another group watched television weather forecasts. After that, they fed their children, who had moderate diathesis.

It turned out that in children who received "funny" milk, the disease softened. Ordinary mother's milk had no effect on diathesis. The analysis revealed that after healthy laughter, the amount of melatonin in milk, a hormone associated with counteracting stress, increases.
