Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Smart contact lenses 20.10.2015

The US Patent and Trademark Office granted Google a patent for "smart" contact lenses equipped with a memory processor and capable of receiving and sending data.

The document is called "Contact lens employing optical signals for power and/or communication" and is registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office under the number 9,158,133. The application was submitted in July 2012.

According to the patent, the device can receive energy from the surrounding space - due to a photocell, which converts sunlight, light from electric lamps and even from camera flashes into electric current.

The gadget can send information to an external device about the user's body temperature or blood alcohol level, as well as information about the presence of allergens or other hazardous substances in the air. It may also have the ability to read information from items, such as price tags. Interaction is proposed to be carried out, for example, by reflecting a radio signal.

In January 2014, Google unveiled a project to develop "smart" contact lenses for diabetics that could alert them to changes in blood sugar levels. In July 2014, the large pharmaceutical company Alcon signed a contract with Google to use technologies developed by the corporation in this area.

"Smart" contact lenses - the second project of Google in the field of wearable electronics after the failure of augmented reality glasses Google Glass.

After years of development, Google promised to bring Google Glass to market in 2014, but failed to do so. In January 2015, the company suspended sales of the test version of the gadget and postponed the launch of the commercial product indefinitely. Users did not like that thanks to the built-in camera, the device allows you to discreetly take photos and record videos, which, in their opinion, threatens privacy. The device turned out to be bulky and inconvenient. Later it became known that Google is developing a new version of the glasses.
