Phraseologism: Physics and lyrics.

Meaning: Servants of science and art.

Origin: The title of a poem by the Soviet poet Boris Abramovich Slutsky (1919-1986), which was first published in Literaturnaya Gazeta (1959, Oct. 13): dry calculation, the matter is in the world law. Further, the poet writes that "lyricists are in the pen" because the time requires precisely "physicists", people of exact knowledge. After the publication of this poem, a heated discussion unfolded in the Soviet press, where the parties found out who was "more needed" - "physicists" or "lyricists". In the end, everyone agreed that both were needed, that both science and art were important.
