Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: In two counts.

Meaning: Quickly, without delay.

Origin: Among the military, it has been so established from time immemorial that not a single command, and, moreover, its implementation can not do without an account. Only twice, ideally, the commander had to count in order for the soldier to have time to throw his rifle on his shoulder. The account was also supposed when the soldier's formation minted a step on the parade ground or at the parade. The military does not tolerate long rantings - after all, when hostilities are going on, every word and every deed is worth its weight in gold. Speed of reaction and ingenuity are required - just for "one-two".

Random phraseology:

Goofballs.

Meaning:

About people who are stupid, careless, negligent in any business.

Origin:

The word was used in folk speech and was taken by M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin from the "Proverbs of the Russian people" by V.I. Dahl. It became widespread as a result of its use by the great satirist in the "History of a City" (1869-1870). In the chapter “On the Root of the Origin of the Foolovites” (inhabitants of the city of Glupov), Saltykov writes: “There was ... in ancient times a people called bunglers ... These people were called bunglers because they had the habit of “pulling” their heads on everything, no matter what met on the way. If a wall comes across - they thrash against the wall, they start praying to God - they thrash against the floor ... "

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Graphene will become cheaper 09.04.2014

Samsung Electronics has announced a revolutionary new method for producing graphene that is said to significantly accelerate the commercialization of this unique material, which is ideal for electronic devices.

The development was carried out by specialists from the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) in collaboration with their colleagues from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul.

According to one of the project participants, this is one of the most important breakthroughs in graphene research. Using the new method, it is possible to form whole graphene crystals with an area equal to silicon wafers used in semiconductor production.

Graphene's advantages over silicon, the most widely used semiconductor material today, include hundreds of times higher electron mobility. Graphene is stronger than steel, has high thermal conductivity and is flexible.

All this makes it possible to consider graphene as a material that will be used in the future in flexible screens, wearables, and other promising electronic devices.
