Meaning: The need to act decisively, without delay.

Origin: The words of the English commander and statesman Arthur Wesley Wellington (1769-1852), which he addressed on June 18, 1815, at the critical moment of the Battle of Waterloo, to General Alava, the Spanish ambassador at the Hague court (Kingdom of the Netherlands).
