Griboyedov A.S.

Phraseologism: I don't go here anymore!

Meaning: It is usually used jokingly and ironically about the reluctance to visit a place where a person is not understood, upset, etc.

Origin: From the comedy "Woe from Wit" (1824) by A. S. Griboyedov (1795-1829). The words of Chatsky’s last monologue (act. 4, yavl. 14): “Get out of Moscow! I don’t come here anymore! // I’m running, I won’t look back, I’ll go looking around the world, // Where there is a corner for an offended feeling ... // Carriage me, the carriage!"

Random phraseology:

Put it on the back burner.

Meaning:

Give the case a long delay, delay its decision for a long time.

Origin:

1. Perhaps this expression originated in Muscovite Russia, three hundred years ago. Tsar Alexei, father of Peter I, ordered in the village of Kolomenskoye in front of his palace to install a long box where anyone could drop their complaint. Complaints fell, but it was very difficult to wait for a decision: months and years passed. The people renamed this "long" box to "long". It is possible that the expression, if not born, was fixed in speech later, in "presences" - institutions of the 2th century. The then officials, accepting various petitions, complaints and petitions, undoubtedly sorted them, laying them out in different boxes. "Long" could be called the one where the most unhurried things were put off. It is clear that the petitioners were afraid of such a box, XNUMX) the most insignificant and unhurried petitions and complaints were put aside in the long drawer of the desk in Russian offices. Perhaps this is a tracing paper from the German language: etwas in die lange Truhe legen

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

TideGen Helical Subsea Turbine for Tidal Energy 08.08.2012

The original TideGen helical subsea turbine will be installed in the Strait of Fundy in the northeastern Gulf of Maine, which borders Canada and the United States. This bay is known for its record high tides, so the turbine will run at high speeds and be subjected to heavy loads.

The TideGen project is different from most underwater turbines, which have wide "fans" similar to their land-based counterparts. In contrast, TideGen is a tubular cylindrical design with spiral bladed blades. This design is highly efficient, reliable and resistant to storms. The turbine is located horizontally at the bottom. It is easy to install and does not interfere with navigation.

The first turbine will generate 150 kW at a water flow rate of 11 km/h. Later, it is planned to install another 19 turbines, which will bring the capacity of the underwater power plant to 3 MW. That's enough to power 1200 homes and small businesses in Maine.

This project can have a significant impact on tidal energy. If the settlement price for electricity (21,5 cents per kWh) can be achieved, the $21 million project will be profitable and will be a good incentive for the development of this type of generating capacity.

In the US alone, converting the movement of waves and tides into electrical energy can supply thousands of terawatt-hours per year, or about a third of all electricity currently used in the US. At the same time, compared to solar panels and windmills, underwater turbines generate a given power continuously, without large jumps.
