Meaning: An ironic commentary on the behavior of a gambling, addicted person.
Origin: From the film "Running" (1971) directed by Alexander Alov (1923-1983) and Vladimir Naumov (b. 1927), based on the play "Running" (1926-1928, made in 1957) by Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov (1891-1940). The words spoken by General Charnota to his friend, Paramon Korzukhin, at a card game. In the movie: "You are aza-arten, Paramosha ... That's what is ruining you." In Bulgakov's play (act. 4, dream 7): "Hey, Paramosha, you are gambling! That's where your weak string is!"

Origin:
From the fable "The Hermit and the Bear" (1807) by I. A. This moral precedes the fable itself, which tells about the service that the Bear rendered to his friend the Hermit (the hermit): with a stone ("that there is strength"), he killed a fly that sat on the forehead of a sleeping comrade, and with it the Hermit himself. |
