holy craft

Pavlova K.K.
Pavlova K.K.

Phraseologism: Holy craft.

Meaning: About the joy of poetic creativity.

Origin: From a poem (1856) by the Russian poetess Karolina Karlovna Pavlova (nee Yanish) (1807-1893): "You, who survived in the heart of a beggar, // Greetings to you, my sad verse! // My bright beam over the ashes // My bliss and joys ! // One thing that blasphemy // Could not touch in the temple: // My misfortune! my wealth! // My holy craft!" Later, the expression was used by other poets: M. Tsvetaeva called her best collection of poems "Craft" (1923), A. Akhmatova, also referring to Pavlova's lines, gave the cycle of poems the name "Secrets of the Craft" (1936-1960).

Random phraseology:

Best is the enemy of the good.

Meaning:

1. Encouragement of someone who is ready to give up the good for the sake of the better, when once done work is redone, time is spent on its improvement, etc. 2. Ironic warning: despite all efforts, "the best" can not be achieved, but lost at the same time already achieved "good" - quite real.

Origin:

For the first time in world literature, this idea is found in the commentary of the Italian author M. Giovanni (1574) to Boccaccio's Decameron. Later, W. Shakespeare would express a similar thought in the tragedy "King Lear": "Striving for the best, we often spoil the good." But. It became a catchphrase after the publication of the novel La begueule by Voltaire (pseudonym of François Marie Arouet, 1694-1778), which used this phrase. Voltaire later uses this expression again in his "Philosophical Dictionary" - in an article on dramatic art. Therefore, it was Voltaire who was considered to be the author of this aphorism, which was usually quoted in the French, Voltaire version: Le mieux est I "enneini du bien.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Acoustic laser operating in multifrequency mode 04.08.2014

American scientists from the state of Maryland presented a development that allows you to control the multi-frequency mode of the acoustic laser.

The acoustic laser demonstrated by scientists has a resonator cavity with a special reflective membrane installed, which provides support for several oscillatory acoustic modes and is used as an output device. The device can also operate in multi-frequency (multi-mode) mode. It is noted that the researchers discovered the phenomenon of the so-called. "anomalous cooling", in which the device enters single-mode mode.

In this mode, a certain leading frequency (mode) of vibrations is allocated, which suppresses the amplification of other frequencies, and with which the amplification of acoustic vibrations is associated. Researchers have shown the ability to control multimode modes, incl. and for setting all the necessary parameters of the single-mode mode.

The scientists controlled the competing modes by adjusting the power of the optical pump: the larger it becomes, the more frequencies of acoustic oscillations appear, from which one leading one is released, suppressing the others.

Sazer, or acoustic laser - a sound analogue of the well-known laser - is an amplifier of sound vibrations of a certain frequency. The principle of operation of the device is similar to the operation of a laser. In this case, in an acoustic laser, in which optical pumping is used, the change in the frequency of photons occurs with the generation of phonons - i.e. quasiparticles, in terms of which it is convenient to describe sound vibrations. The work of a sather is related to Mandelstam-Brillouin scattering, in which the change in the frequency of reflected light occurs during the interaction of the incident radiation and the crystal lattice of a solid.

It is believed that directed beams of phonons from acoustic lasers can be used as switches for the electrical properties of certain materials, as well as for experiments with three-dimensional structures of solids.
