Phraseologism: Lovely soul.
Meaning: A benevolent attitude towards people in which the best qualities are assumed, including mutual goodwill, courtesy, attentiveness, etc.
Origin: The author of the expression is the critic and publicist Vissarion Grigoryevich Belinsky (1811-1848), who once wrote in a letter (1839) to the writer I. I. Panaev about "beautiful antics." He is also the author of the verb "beautiful" (a letter from V. G. Belinsky to the critic and translator V. P. Botkin dated February 3, 1840). The original source of the expression is the title of one of the chapters ("Confessions of a Beautiful Soul") of the work "The Student Years of Wilhelm Meister" by Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832).

Origin:
From English: "Positions of strength". Foreign policy doctrine formulated by US Secretary of State Dean Acheson (1893-1971). On February 15, 1950, D. Acheson stated: "As we have seen from hard experience, the only way to do business with the Soviet Union is to demonstrate our strength" (to create situations of strength). Obviously, the expression has a predecessor - the phrase "power politics", known both in English (powers politics) and in German (Machtpolitik). Its primary source is considered to be the saying "Power is greater than right" (Macht gent vor recht), as defined by the internal policy of the Prussian Chancellor Otto Bismarck, his opponent, the Prussian MP Maximilian, von Schwerin (speech of January 27, 1863). The authorship of the very expression "Power is above law" was at one time attributed to O. Bismarck himself, who resolutely refused it. |

Switzerland's Energy Vault has announced the completion and commissioning of the world's first commercial gravitational energy storage. This unique battery was built in China and has a capacity of 25 MW and a capacity of 100 MWh. Its principle of operation is to convert electrical energy into kinetic energy by lifting concrete blocks to a height and releasing this energy as they descend to the ground.
This gravitational energy accumulator, built in China, is the first facility of this scale and commercial purpose. Energy Vault previously built a 5MW demonstration battery in Switzerland, but a new project in China surpasses it. In addition, China has already expressed interest in building five more similar gravity batteries with a total capacity of 2 GWh.
The principle of operation of gravitational accumulators resembles pumped storage power plants, but without complex pumps and technological equipment. Blocks, weighing up to 24 tons, rise to a height of up to 100 meters and descend back to the ground to release the accumulated energy. It is an efficient buffer for storing energy derived from renewable sources such as solar and wind power.
The efficiency of the Energy Vault gravity system starts at 75% and can reach 80% and higher. The storage of energy, that is, the lifting of blocks, can last from 2 to 12 hours, depending on the specific tasks and available energy sources. The commissioned system in Jiangsu Province, near Shanghai, will operate for 4 hours. Connection to the power transmission network is planned for the fourth quarter of this year. The project impressed the local authorities so much that another similar battery was ordered.
