Fellow travelers

German
German

Phraseologism: Fellow travelers.

Meaning: About people whose interests for some time coincide with the main interest of the participants in a movement, undertaking, a plan being implemented, etc. (jokingly ironic).

Origin: From German: "Mitlaufer". Literally: "Those who run beside". The term, so common in Russia in the early years of Soviet power, is of German origin. He was born (late 90s of the XIX - early XX centuries) in the environment of German social democracy, among the supporters of Eduard Bernstein, who were looking for supporters among the representatives of the petty bourgeoisie, calling them "fellow travelers". The Bernsteinians believed that the interests of hired workers and the petty bourgeoisie objectively coincided for a certain period of time. In Soviet Russia, this will be the name given to those cultural figures who, despite their loyalty to the new government, will nevertheless strive to preserve their creative independence.

Random phraseology:

Literary frame.

Meaning:

About several popular, well-known writers, who, as is commonly believed, are the entire literature of the country (disapproved, ironic).

Origin:

From the feuilleton "On a Green Garden Bench" (1932) by Soviet writers Ilya Ilf (1897-1937) and Yevgeny Petrov (1903-1942). A dialogue between two writers, one of whom wonders why the names of the same writers are always mentioned in critical reviews, as if there were no others at all: "- Comrade, there is a thing that angers me. This is a literary clip. - What, what? - Well, you know, like a revolver clip. Seven cartridges come in - and you won't shove another one in. So it is in critical reviews. There are several names, they are always in brackets and always together. The Leningrad clip is Tikhonov, Slonimsky, Fedin, Libedinsky. Moscow - Leonov, Shaginyan, Panferov, Fadeev". After the publication of the feuilleton, this expression firmly entered the Russian language of the Soviet period as a reflection of the realities of literary and artistic life in the USSR. The history of this expression was studied by literary critic L. I. Skvortsova, who published the article "Clip" in the journal "Questions of the Culture of Speech" (IV., M. Academy of Sciences of the USSR, 1963).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Hydrogen from solar energy 15.12.2021

North German companies want to implement a project to produce biomethanol from solar energy at the Airpark Laage in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

East Energie plans to supply solar power from its photovoltaic power plants in close proximity. To do this, companies are building without government subsidies and are still developing solar parks on an area of about 300 hectares. The first fleet, with a capacity of about 40 megawatts, should be launched by the end of 2022, and the rest in 2023 and 2024.

Apex also plans to expand its own on-site electrolysis capacity to 105 megawatts in the coming years. The solar energy will be used to produce green hydrogen, which Apex will supply to East Energy to power its biomethanol plant, which will produce about 8000 tons of biomethanol annually.

McPhy Energy SA, a supplier of hydrogen production and distribution equipment, has already installed a 2 MW electrolysis platform. The plant is also equipped with a McLyzer 400-30 electrolyser, which can produce more than 300 tons of carbon-free hydrogen per year from renewable energy sources.

The technological complex consists of a fuel cell, a storage tank, a combined heat and power plant and a stabilizing battery. With the support of the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis and Fraunhofer scientists, a modern plastic hydrogen storage system for 1000 liters at 60 bar was created. The electrolyzer is directly connected to Emano's storage system.

Energy is generated as needed thanks to a fuel cell from Proton Motor with an electric power of 100 kilowatts and a hydrogen block thermal power plant from 2G with a power of 115 kilowatts, as well as a megawatt battery storage system from WEMAG.

In addition, the on-site public hydrogen refueling station serves up to 40 public transport buses and 200 passenger cars.
