The writer pees and the reader reads

Saltykov-Shchedrin M.E.
Saltykov-Shchedrin M.E.

Phraseologism: The writer pees and the reader reads.

Meaning: About the literary process in the absence of feedback from the reader, any influence of literature on life, the reader's mindset, etc. (jokingly ironic).

Origin: An inaccurate quote from Motley Letters (1884) by satirist Mikhail Evgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826-1889). In the original (the first "motley" letter): "The Russian reader, obviously, still believes that he is on his own, and literature is on its own. That the writer pees, and he, the reader, reads. That's all. Try to tell him, that there is a certain solidarity between him and the literary profession, he will look at you with surprised eyes.

Random phraseology:

Am I lying on roses?

Meaning:

I am not in a better position than you, but I do not complain, I behave with dignity.

Origin:

The words of the last ruler of Mexico Guatemosin, captured by the Spanish conquerors-conquistadors (1521). By order of the conqueror of Mexico, Cortes Guatemozin and cacique (leader) Takuba were tortured on a red-hot grate, demanding to give them all the golden treasures of the country. Kasik could not stand it and began to moan loudly, which caused the above remark of Guatemosin.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Processor Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 31.03.2013

The recently introduced smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4, as you know, will be available in two versions, differing in processor. Some devices will use the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor, and some will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor.

The information of IHS iSuppli analysts that the Exynos 5 Octa processor will get only modifications with HSPA + support, and the modification with LTE support will be built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, turned out to be erroneous.
Samsung found it necessary to clarify that the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor (Exynos 5410) supports LTE in 20 frequency bands, that is, it copes with next-generation networks as well as the Snapdragon 600 does.

The reason why a significant part of the first Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphones will be built on the Snapdragon 600 lies elsewhere. The South Korean manufacturer simply does not have time to launch the mass production of its own single-chip systems with the specified parameters on time. The only alternative that allows the Samsung Galaxy S4 to start shipping as planned while keeping the performance of the device up to par is to use the Snapdragon 600.
