Found a trace of Tarasov

Gogol N.V.
Gogol N.V.

Phraseologism: A trace of Tarasov was found.

Meaning: Serves as a playful commentary on meeting a person with whom contact was previously lost.

Origin: From the story "Taras Bulba" (1835) by I. V. Gogol (1809-1852). After the story about the execution of Ostap (ch. 11), the next, 12th chapter begins with the words: "The trace of Tarasov was found."

Random phraseology:

Mata Hari.

Meaning:

About an adventurous woman.

Origin:

A legendary World War I spy who was accused by the French authorities of passing secret information to Germany and executed. Real name - Margarita Gertrude Zelle (1876-1917), Dutch by birth, famous dancer. Since a considerable share in her repertoire was occupied by exotic oriental dances. she adopted the stage name Mata Hari to create a more intriguing image for herself. When in 1905 she offered the Parisian public oriental dances with stripping, her name immediately became widely known throughout the French capital. Legend and human rumor made M. Zelle the "queen of espionage", who easily communicated with the highest military officials of France and Germany, but the true role of this adventurous warehouse of a woman is not really fully clarified and, apparently, more modest than is commonly believed.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Muse Technologies for Thought Control 17.08.2013

InteraXon, a start-up company working on a thought-computer control interface, has raised its first major investment of $6 million by giving investors a stake in preferred stock.

Chief Executive Ariel Garten announced the deal yesterday at the GROW startup conference in Vancouver. She also demonstrated the company's product - a comfortable and neat six-sensor Muse headband that replaces the traditional encephalogram device.

"Muse is a rim that is sensitive to the biocurrents of the brain, allowing you to track its cognitive and emotional activity. It increases your attention and helps you better understand the emotions you are experiencing," Ms. Garten said.

InteraXon started with a successful Indiegogo campaign that raised $287 to launch the first series of devices. The public attention the project has generated has been an important investment case for Horizons Ventures, OMERS Ventures, ff Venture Capital, Felicis Ventures, Bridge Builders Collaborative, and A-Grade Investments, an investment company founded this year by actor Ashton Kutcher. ), who played the role of Steve Jobs.

The funds raised will be used to improve algorithms and release more devices on the market. The Muse device allows you to control the computer and games, reduce stress, improve memory and concentration, - the company says - ultimately this computer-brain interface will allow you to mentally control the surrounding devices.

The company says that Muse with bundled iOS and Android mental exercise software and SDK will begin shipping in late 2013. The cost of the device is not very high and even now it is $200.

It is hoped that InteraXon technology will appear in future devices such as Google Glass digital glasses and Oculus Rift virtual reality glasses, and will expand the scope of wearable computing with a simple and always accessible control tool.
