Stop, a moment! You are wonderful!

Johann Wolfgang Goethe
Johann Wolfgang Goethe

Phraseologism: Stop, a moment! You are wonderful!

Meaning: It is usually used literally as a phrase-symbol of the highest degree of happiness, pleasure, admiration for something (fullness of life, beauty, etc.).

Origin: From the tragedy "Faust" (1808) by the great German scientist and writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832). Words of Faust (part 1, scene 4 "Faust's Study"). These are the words that Faust utters, outlining his deal with the devil - Mephistopheles. He is ready to fulfill all the desires of the scientist, but the latter is afraid that one day the moment will come when he will have nothing to wish for, and he will lose the meaning of life, will languish and suffer. Therefore, Faust asks Mephistopheles to interrupt his earthly existence when he reaches the highest happiness and wants it to last a little longer ("Stop, a moment!") - and at that very moment Mephistopheles must stop Faust's life time and take him with him to the underworld . Faust's phrase is also known in the translation (1878) of a prominent Russian zoologist and poet-translator Nikolai Aleksandrovich Kholodkovsky (1858-1921): "Faust: Well, deal with it! // When I exclaim: "A moment, // You are wonderful, last , wait!" - // Then prepare a chain of captivity for me, // Open the earth under me! // Resolving your bondage, // Let me hear the call of death - // And the hour hand will become, // And time will blow for me.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Hydrogen tablets 03.08.2006

According to many scientists, the future belongs to environmentally friendly hydrogen energy. However, hydrogen is difficult to store: at normal pressure it takes up too much space, compressed hydrogen cylinders are explosive and heavy. Liquid hydrogen requires voluminous thermal insulation. It is possible to store hydrogen in metal hydrides based on rare metals, but they are expensive.

Employees of the Danish University of Technology have developed a method for storing hydrogen in the form of ammonia, which is part of the complex salt formed by ammonia with magnesium chloride.

Tablets can be pressed from this salt. When heated above 300 degrees Celsius, ammonia is released from the tablet; it is passed through a catalyst and decomposed into nitrogen and hydrogen. Magnesium chloride is not wasted in any way and can be "charged" with hydrogen again. A supply of pills in a container equal in volume to an ordinary car gas tank allows a car to travel 600 kilometers.
