They learned nothing and forgot nothing

French
French

Phraseologism: They have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

Meaning: About political revanchists.

Origin: From French: "Us n" ont rien appris, ni rien oublie" Mistakenly attributed to Napoleon, Talleyrand and others. Words from a letter (1796) from the French admiral de Pan to the famous journalist of the French Revolution, Malle du Pan. The admiral meant the royalists (from the French word "royal" - "royal"). These supporters of the overthrown royal power in France, perked up during the Directory period (1794-1799), hoping for an early restoration of the monarchy. The expression experienced a second birth after the restoration of the Bourbons on the French throne (1814 -1830) and went down in history as an ironic commentary on the behavior of the last representatives of this dynasty, who returned to power for some time. The admiral's letter became widely known (1851), when the correspondence of the journalist Malle du Pan was published in Paris.

Random phraseology:

Iron curtain.

Meaning:

On a policy driven by ideological struggle and aimed at isolating a country or group of countries from external relations and influences (disapproved).

Origin:

This expression was given life by a fixture previously used in the theater - an iron curtain, which, in order to protect the auditorium from fire, was lowered onto the stage in the event of a fire on it. This was very advisable in an era when open fire was forced to be used on the stage to illuminate it - candles, oil lamps, etc. For the first time, such an iron curtain began to be used in France - in the city of Lyon in the late 80s - early 90s gg. 23th century The expression "Iron Curtain" was already used during the First World War, and on December 1919, 23, J. Clemenceau declared in the French Chamber of Deputies: "We want to put an iron curtain around Bolshevism so as not to destroy civilized Europe in the future." On February 1945, 2000, an article by J. Goebbels "Year 5" appeared in the magazine "Das Reich". It said that if Germany loses the war, the USSR will fence off Eastern and South-Eastern Europe from the rest of the world with an "iron curtain". The expression iron curtain became widely known after Churchill's speech at Westminster College in Fulton (USA) on March 1946, XNUMX: "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended on the continent." This speech is often considered the beginning of the Cold War.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

tissue that kills viruses 05.02.2021

American scientists design tissue capable of destroying viruses. The study aims to create safer medical clothing for healthcare workers.

The project is headed by Patricia Dolez. Her goal is to develop a textile treatment that kills viruses, including COVID-19, on contact: "We are developing something that will make the fabric self-disinfecting."

Building on existing technology, scientists are trying to adapt a chemical used to disinfect swimming pools to treat textiles. This chemical is sensitive to light, so Dolez and colleagues want to make it a light-resistant compound that can be applied to fabric. At the same time, so that protective clothing does not lose its properties after washing and can be reused.

A new chemical compound will break the chain of cross-contamination: "Imagine a person not infecting anyone, even himself, by touching his mask. Bacteria or a virus will die on contact with the tissue and can no longer cause harm." This means there is minimal chance of spread and infection between healthcare workers themselves and their patients.

The Canadian company Logistik Unicorp, which supplies workwear and works with military uniforms, is interested in the promising development of scientists and said it would develop partnerships to bring the finished product to the stage of production and commercialization.
