The idle speed regulator (see photo 1) is a device that is necessary in the system to stabilize the idle speed of the engine. IAC is a stepper motor with a spring-loaded conical needle.

While the engine is idling, by changing the flow area of ​​the additional air supply channel bypassing the closed throttle valve, the amount of air necessary for its stable operation enters the engine. This air is taken into account by the mass air flow sensor (MAF) and, in accordance with its amount, the controller supplies fuel to the engine through the fuel injectors. Using the crankshaft position sensor (DPKV), the controller monitors the number of engine revolutions and, in accordance with the engine operating mode, controls the IAC, thus adding or reducing the air supply bypassing the closed throttle (see photo 2 and photo 3).

With the engine warmed up to operating temperature, the controller maintains idle speed. If the engine is not warmed up, the controller increases the speed due to the IAC and, thus, ensures that the engine warms up at increased crankshaft speeds. This mode of operation of the engine allows you to start the movement of the car immediately and without warming up the engine. The idle speed regulator is mounted on the throttle body (see Photo-4) and is attached to it with two screws. Unfortunately, on some vehicles, the heads of these mounting screws can be drilled out or the screws are varnished, which can make it much more difficult to remove the IAC to replace it or clean the air channel. In such cases, it is rarely possible to do without dismantling the entire throttle body. IAC is an actuating device and its self-diagnosis is not provided in the system. Therefore, if the idle speed controller malfunctions, the "CHECK ENGINE" lamp does not light up.

Symptoms of malfunctions of the IAC are in many ways similar to malfunctions of the TPS (throttle position sensor), but in the second case, the "CHECK ENGINE" lamp clearly indicates a malfunction of the TPS. The following symptoms can be attributed to malfunctions of the idle speed controller: unstable engine idling speed, spontaneous increase or decrease in engine speed, engine stop when the gear is turned off, lack of increased speed when starting a cold engine, decrease in engine idle speed when the load is turned on (headlights, stove, etc.). To dismantle the idle speed controller, with the ignition off, disconnect its four-pin connector and unscrew the two fixing screws. The IAC is mounted in the reverse order, but after checking the distance from the flange to the end point of the conical needle, which should be 23 mm. In addition, the O-ring on the flange should be lubricated with engine oil.

Intel LTE modems 26.08.2013

Intel will start the first deliveries of LTE modems this month. The new devices that TSMC will release support 15 frequency bands. At the same time, Intel will need 2-3 years to master these modems in its own production.
