Oh, how deadly we love!

Tyutchev F.I.
Tyutchev F.I.

Phraseologism: Oh, how deadly we love!

Meaning: A strong feeling prevents you from thinking and acting rationally, which is why the one who causes this feeling suffers.

Origin: From a poem (1851) by Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev (1803-1873) named after this first line, which was inspired by the poet's relationship with E. A. Denisyeva. The last quatrain is usually quoted: "Oh, how deadly we love! // As in the violent blindness of passions // We most certainly destroy everything, // What is sweeter to our heart!".

Random phraseology:

Cornucopia (Amalfein horn).

Meaning:

Source of income, wealth, prosperity.

Origin:

From Latin: cornu copyae. From ancient Greek mythology. The Thunderer Zeus, the head of Olympus, was fed with her milk by the goat Amalthea. When Zeus grew up and became the supreme god, he took his nurse to heaven in gratitude, and she became the star Capella in the constellation Auriga. But on the way to heaven, the goat Amalthea accidentally lost one horn. Zeus raised him and presented him to the nymphs, who also took part in his upbringing. At the same time, the head of Olympus endowed this horn with a magical property: one had only to wish, as a wide variety of dishes appeared from the horn or the most delicious drink poured. He was literally a cornucopia.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Robot eagle 25.09.2013

Giving drones the shape of birds is a promising direction. Flying at an altitude of several hundred meters, Shepherd-MIL is indistinguishable from a living bird soaring in the air. This attracts less attention of onlookers, and for terrorists and enemy soldiers it is an additional factor of psychological pressure: even today, the inhabitants of Afghanistan and Pakistan see an unmanned threat in every large bird.

Shepherd-MIL is currently being tested by the Spanish Army. Negotiations are also underway to sell the drone to foreign customers.

The Shepherd-MIL UAV, developed by the Spanish company EXPAL, is a small, hand-launched UAV. Currently, such small drones are the most widespread type of UAVs and are used in various armies of the world in the amount of thousands of units.

Shepherd-MIL has a number of features that distinguish it from popular UAVs like the RQ-11 Raven. Of course, first of all, this is design: the device imitates the appearance of a desert eagle, which is able to soar for hours over flat terrain, looking for prey. To give the appearance of a bird, the developers did not have to resort to complex tricks - only paint and a special film are used. The machine itself is very cheap, costing only around £1000, and fits easily into two small briefcase-like bags. Thanks to camouflage and a low-noise electric motor that can be switched off during planning, the Eagle UAV can descend to a height of up to 100 m without the risk of exposure. Conventional UAVs have to stay at an altitude of more than 1000 m, and even higher with good visibility and clear skies.

The drone is equipped with an autopilot, a communication system that can be replaced by a payload in the form of a thermal imager or video camera. First of all, the UAV is designed for reconnaissance and automatic target designation for mortar crews.
