Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The tablet will be able to control an unmanned truck 24.09.2014

The Daimler concern, which produces cars under the Mercedes-Benz brand, presented a prototype truck with an autonomous control function. The concept is called Future Truck 2025, which suggests that the German manufacturer plans to release an unmanned "truck of the future" in 10 years.

The work of the autopilot on a heavy truck was tested in the summer of 2014. During the tests, a partially self-driving "truck" moved along the German autobahn without direct human participation - it maneuvered, kept its lane, slowed down and accelerated to 85 km/h.

The electronic system, which allows the tractor to drive independently, includes a set of radar sensors located in front and on the sides, as well as a 3D front camera. The latter has viewing angles of 45 degrees horizontally and 27 degrees vertically. The camera scans the 100 meters area in front of the car, recognizing lanes, road signs, stationary or moving objects, including pedestrians.

The truck is also equipped with Blind Spot Assist for safe lane changes and turning at intersections. In addition, the prototype can interact with other vehicles on the road, receiving information from them about traffic jams, problem areas and other useful information. Wireless "communication" of cars is possible at a distance of up to 500 m from each other.

The design of the Future Truck 2025 is minimalist and includes aerodynamically flowing shapes. Most of the front surface of the cockpit is occupied by LED backlighting, which turns blue after activation of the autopilot, and white when driving in "manual" mode. During maneuvers, some of the lights turn orange, acting as turn signals.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz concept truck is finished with natural materials, including wood. The driver's seat reclines and rotates 45 degrees, allowing the trucker to take a more comfortable position when the car is driving in automatic mode.

An interesting find of German engineers was a removable tablet computer. This device allows you to control the electronic functions of the car (for example, adjust the operation of the air conditioner and multimedia system), build a route in the navigation application, receive information from dispatchers, etc. When driving on autopilot, the driver can disconnect the tablet from the center console and use it for reading books or entertainment functions.
