We are Kalutsky, it will not reach us

Russian empire
Russian empire

Phraseologism: We are Kalutsky, it will not reach us.

Meaning: We live far from the front (in Kaluga, Tambov, etc. provinces), the enemy (war) will not reach us, therefore, this war does not concern us.

Origin: A phrase popular in Russia at the beginning of the 1th century as an analogue of the well-known European expression, the patriotism of the bell tower. The phrase is a symbol of "parochial patriotism", an undeveloped civic feeling (iron.). General A. I. Denikin about the Russian army during the First World War ("Essays on Russian Troubles", vol. I, ch. XNUMX): "The armed people", which was, in essence, the army, inspired by victory, lost heart in defeat, poorly understood the need to cross the Carpathians. A little more - the struggle in Styr and Pripyat, but still comforted himself with the hope: "We are Tambov, the German will not reach us ..." I have to repeat this rather hackneyed phrase, because it contains the deep psychology of a Russian person.

Random phraseology:

For all time.

Meaning:

Forever, always.

Origin:

From the title of the English film "A man for all seasons" (1966), which was called "A Man for All Seasons" in the Soviet box office. The film was shot by American director Fred Zinneman (1907-1997) based on the play of the same name (1960) by English playwright Robert Bolt. The Oscar-winning film tells the story of a man who chose death over betrayal of his principles and beliefs.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Smartphones against poachers 19.06.2013

The American non-profit organization Rainforest Connection has announced a project to protect the rainforests of Indonesia from illegal logging, reports NewScientist. The organization proposed to install in the forests where "black loggers" operate, sound sensors that can respond to the sound of a saw and immediately notify the forest services about cutting down (indicating the location of violators). It is proposed to use smartphones based on Android as sensors.

The pilot project, which starts in June, will involve new smartphones - their Rainforest Connection was provided by partner companies. Going forward, however, the organization wants to use used devices donated by users. Special software will be installed on the devices and fixed on trees. Each phone, claims Rainforest Connection, is able to "listen" to the territory with a radius of half a kilometer. The microphone of the device in search of noise will be permanently on. The smartphone will be powered by solar panels.

Rainforest Connection does not rule out that public control may subsequently be established over the felling. Through mobile applications, the facts of illegal logging will be notified not only to special services, but also to everyone.

The rain forests of Indonesia are the third largest in terms of area after the forests of the Amazon and the Congo Basin. The forests are home to many species of animals and birds, many of which are endangered. According to the Rainforest Connection, more than a million hectares of forest are cut down annually in the country.
