Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. The prosthesis is controlled by brain signals 15.08.2013

Easton LaChappelle, an American from California, made a breakthrough in the field of creating prostheses based on modern technologies. He developed a prosthetic hand that costs many times less than similar analogues, and taught him to perceive brain signals.

The prosthesis, designed by Easton, is valued at less than $400. Its main frame is 3D printed, which significantly reduced the cost of production, but at the same time did not affect strength. According to the inventor himself, his creation is very strong - each of the five fingers can hold weight up to 22 kilograms. Indeed, such a hand does not hold strength.

The artificial fingers of the prosthesis are set in motion by special servo drives, thanks to which the maximum natural position of the hand is achieved and the possibility of using it to replace the lost limb. The prosthesis, as mentioned above, is literally controlled by the brain - it is connected to it using a wireless EEG system that reads special brain signals, interprets them and transmits them to an artificial arm.

Many organizations are actively interested in the invention of a 17-year-old teenager, as it can significantly reduce the cost of producing prostheses and reduce the price of them themselves. The NASA space organization has been the fastest in terms of responding to the emergence of a new genius-nugget - Easton is already working in it, but so far as an intern. According to him, he gathered all the information necessary to create a tablet from books and the Internet, without asking for help from specialists.
