Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

External keyboard for mobile devices 27.03.2001

AlphaGrip is developing an ingenious device that can significantly increase the productivity of handheld users who have a keyboard that is either too small or does not exist at all and must resort to handwriting.

In appearance, AlphaGrip resembles a toy studded with buttons. They are located on several panels: two main panels on the front of the device and several buttons on the back. The front covers the entire alphanumeric range. The rear ones are designed for games - with them AlphaGrip turns into a game pad.

The highlight is that, when working with AlphaGrip, the palms are located not horizontally, but almost vertically, and at the same time they are fixed in space by the curvature of the surface. Although this approach is unusual, it actually allows you to achieve fast blind typing - the user learns it in a few hours.

The device operates in several modes: in addition to working as a remote keyboard for a PC, PDA or mobile phone, it can be used as a game controller, mouse and even a TV remote control.

In most cases, communication with external devices is carried out through the infrared port. However, the developers also promise to make a version of AlphaGrip, which can be connected through a special slot in the device case. It is possible that AlphaGrip itself will turn into a kind of PDA - thanks to a small screen and microprocessor stuffing.
