Frog traveler

Garshin V.M.
Garshin V.M.

Phraseologism: Frog traveler.

Meaning: About an unlucky travel lover who constantly gets into unpleasant situations (jokingly ironic)

Origin: The title of the fairy tale (1881) by the Russian writer Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin (1855-1888). It tells about the Frog, who decided to travel, hoping for the help of two ducks. They took a twig in their beaks, which the Frog grabbed in her mouth, and so all three rose into the air. Intoxicated by the flight, the Frog wanted to attract the attention of those who remained on the ground, croaked - and immediately fell into the swamp.

Random phraseology:

She hasn't worn out her shoes yet.

Meaning:

So little time has passed, and the person has already changed his views, beliefs.

Origin:

A quotation from Hamlet's monologue from Shakespeare's tragedy of the same name, translated by N. A. Polevoy (1837), d. I, yavl. 2: "She has not yet worn out her shoes, // In which she walked behind her husband's coffin, // Like a poor widow, in tears ... And here she is, // She! Oh, God! A beast without reason and feeling // Sad more! she is the uncle's wife... // And only a month! Her insidious tears // The traces have not dried up - she is the wife of another!"

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Augmented Reality Safety Helmet 11.09.2014

Wearable electronics that can be used in production must comply with all safety requirements. Developers from DAQRI decided that such a device, which combines the functions of Google Glass smart glasses, can just become the very means of personal protection for a worker.

This is how the idea to create a "smart" helmet DAQRI Hardchat 2.0 appeared - a wearable gadget-helmet that uses the Android operating system to work. The model is equipped with built-in cameras and various sensors, as well as a transparent visor that acts as a display. Thanks to the effects of augmented reality, a worker will be able to quickly navigate the readings of complex equipment and receive a hint while staying at a construction site or an industrial enterprise.

At this stage, it is not known what price the manufacturer will set for DAQRI Hardchat 2.0. However, the president of the company clarified that his company is not going to save on the projected wearable device, which also provides head protection for its owner. This means that in the end, a "smart" helmet, whose duties even include scanning the environment and notifying of a potential threat to human health in a particular location, will become a multifunctional, advanced and very expensive gadget with a price tag of several thousand dollars.

Two Snapdragon processor chips are responsible for the computing capabilities of the DAQRI Hardchat 2.0 system. If desired, the worker will be able to synchronize the helmet with a mobile device on Android or with a smart watch. All statistical data and footage are automatically stored on the memory card built into the gadget.

DAQRI Hardchat 2.0 is expected to be available for purchase as early as next month.
