Karas-idealist

Saltykov-Shchedrin M.E.
Saltykov-Shchedrin M.E.

Phraseologism: Karas is an idealist.

Meaning: About a person who has become a victim of his own, his own illusions (jokingly-iron.).

Origin: The name of a satirical tale (1884) by Mikhail Evgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826-1889), who thus decided to describe the type of idealist public figure. An idealist carp believes in goodness, love, universal happiness and the need for civic feeling. I am sure that the pike will not eat it either - you just need to lay out the whole "truth" to it. And, having met once with a pike, he begins to convince her that all fish should swim freely, live in harmony, live by their own labor, including the pike. And, hoping to finally reason with her, the crucian asks her a question: "Do you know what virtue is?" The pike "gave her mouth open in surprise. She mechanically drew water and, not wanting to swallow the crucian at all, swallowed it." In the collection of satirical essays Well-intentioned Speeches (1872-1876), Saltykov-Shchedrin wrote: "Woe to the crucian carp who doze in ignorance that their providential purpose is to serve as food for pikes, filling the pool of vital foundations."

Random phraseology:

The love boat crashed on life.

Meaning:

About the cause of family troubles, when the romantic period of meetings and falling in love ended, and a life together with its everyday problems began (jokingly ironic).

Origin:

From rough sketches in the last notebooks of the poet Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930), which are usually published under the title "Unfinished" (1928-1930) in their original form - in accordance with the author's spelling, without punctuation marks: "the sea recedes // The sea goes to bed // As they say, the incident is ruined // the love boat // crashed into everyday life // We are even with you // And there is no need for a list // of mutual pains and insults."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Mathematical regular distribution of neurons in the human brain 04.01.2024

Scientists from the Jülich Research Center and the University of Cologne in Germany, participating in the Human Brain Project, have discovered a surprising mathematical rule governing the distribution of neurons in the brain. It has been confirmed that the number of neurons in the outer layer of nervous tissue in various mammalian species follows a lognormal distribution.

The discovery of a lognormal distribution of neurons in the outer layer of the cerebral cortex across mammalian species has important implications for understanding brain function and evolution. This information can serve as the basis for the creation of accurate models that facilitate research into neurological mechanisms, and can provide impetus for the development of innovative treatments for various neurological diseases, alerting us to potential problems and improving quality of life.

The findings provide scientists with the key to creating precise models that will help unlock the mysteries of brain function and develop new treatments for neurological diseases.

The lognormal distribution, familiar in the world of statistics, becomes a striking revelation when analyzing neurons. This mathematical concept appears in nature, similar to the normal distribution, but with skewness and a pronounced right-sided tail. It is important to note that this distribution is also found in population, where large cities are combined with many smaller settlements.

Brain structure and function are closely related to the number and distribution of neurons. The diversity of neuronal densities in different parts of the cerebral cortex varies significantly.

The study used data from seven different mammal species, including humans. A comparative analysis of the density of neurons in different areas of the cerebral cortex revealed a general pattern of lognormal distribution.

The lognormal distribution becomes a natural result of various processes in a developing organism, just as the normal distribution is associated with the summation of independent variables.

The new study not only expands our understanding of brain structure, but also provides a basis for future research into treating neurological disorders. Attention to the mathematical patterns of neuron distribution opens up prospects for creating more effective methods of treating and combating brain diseases.
