José Ortega y Gasset. The most famous aphorisms

  • Banalities are trams of thinking.
  • All nationalism is a dead end.
  • The only true thoughts are the thoughts of a drowning man. Everything else is rhetoric, posture, internal buffoonery.
  • Life is genuine only when everything in it is caused by an urgent and immutable need.
  • To live just means to feel perishing, only the recognition of this truth leads to oneself, helps to find one's authenticity, to get on solid ground.
  • The mass is a multitude of people without special virtues, the mass is the average, ordinary person.
  • Mass thinking is the thinking of those who have an answer ready for any question in advance, which is not difficult and quite satisfactory.
  • The mass man, true to his nature, will not reckon with anything but himself until the need compels him. And since today she does not force, he is not considered, believing himself to be the master of life. On the contrary, a remarkable, unique person internally needs something greater and higher than himself, constantly checks with him and serves him of his own free will.
  • The minority is a collection of persons distinguished by special qualities, the mass is not distinguished by anything.
  • A restless, unclaimed life is a greater antipode to life than death itself. Life is an obligation to do something, the fulfillment of a duty, and by avoiding it, we renounce life.
  • The old is old not because of its own old age, but because the new arises and by its newness alone suddenly ages everything that preceded it.
  • The fate of democracy, whatever its form and development, depends on a minor technical detail - the election procedure. The rest is secondary.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Mini air conditioner Sony Reon Pocket 5 09.05.2024

Summer is a time for relaxation and travel, but often the heat can turn this time into an unbearable torment. Meet a new product from Sony - the Reon Pocket 5 mini-air conditioner, which promises to make summer more comfortable for its users. Sony has introduced a unique device - the Reon Pocket 5 mini-conditioner, which provides body cooling on hot days. With it, users can enjoy coolness anytime, anywhere by simply wearing it around their neck. This mini air conditioner is equipped with automatic adjustment of operating modes, as well as temperature and humidity sensors. Thanks to innovative technologies, Reon Pocket 5 adjusts its operation depending on the user's activity and environmental conditions. Users can easily adjust the temperature using a dedicated mobile app connected via Bluetooth. Additionally, specially designed T-shirts and shorts are available for convenience, to which a mini air conditioner can be attached. The device can oh ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Whole body positron tomography 28.03.2017

Scientists and engineers from the University of California at Davis have developed a project for a positron emission tomograph - a medical device that scans the entire body. According to the developers, this device will revolutionize radiology.

The method of positron emission tomography is based on the phenomenon of positron and electron annihilation. Before the study, a person takes a radiopharmaceutical: an organic substance, depending on the type of study, in the molecule of the active substance of which one of the atoms is replaced by a short-lived radioactive isotope, which decays, emitting a positron. The positron collides with the nearest electron, its own antiparticle - and they annihilate, turning into two photons with very high energy (gamma quanta). They are registered by sensors in the "pipe" of the tomograph, after which the software restores the trajectory of gamma rays to the point of annihilation. And since the drug is delivered to certain organs, using PET, you can get a huge amount of information - for example, to see areas of brain activity, metastases, or foci of inflammation.

PET research in many areas remains very informative, but also very expensive: radiopharmaceuticals are prepared on cyclotrons specifically for a particular study, and the scanner itself is not cheap. However, existing scanners read the signal only from small areas of the body, in lengths, as a rule, not exceeding 25 centimeters. To scan the whole body, you need to do all the manipulations several times, which is associated with a significant radiation load on the body. In addition, the small size of modern scanners and the high cost of the entire procedure limits the possibilities of dynamic diagnostics.

The authors of the whole body PET scanner project expect to increase diagnostic accuracy by 40 times, and increase the signal-to-noise ratio by six times.

In turn, the high sensitivity of the device allows the use of smaller and safer doses of radiopharmaceuticals; the authors of the project even suggest that PET studies will find application in prenatal medicine.

But first of all, the new scanner will go to oncology departments: increased sensitivity and scanning of the whole body will make it possible to detect small tumors and metastases. Another promising direction is testing new drugs and observing their work directly in the body during clinical trials.
