First PowerVR Series6 GPUs from Imagination Technologies 16.01.2012

During CES 2012, Imagination Technologies unveiled the first PowerVR Series6 GPUs, the PowerVR G6200 and G6400.

According to the developer, the PowerVR Rogue architecture behind the PowerVR Series6 graphics cores marks a new milestone in performance, lower power consumption and scalability, targeting a wide range of applications from mobile devices to PCs.

The ability to include a different number of "compute clusters" in the configuration allows PowerVR Series6 embedded GPUs to qualify for use in smartphones, tablets, PCs, consoles, on-board systems, digital TV receivers and other devices. The cluster is an array of programmable computing elements, the design of which was focused on the optimal ratio of performance, throughput and power consumption. The first PowerVR Series6 cores, the G6200 and G6400, comprise two and four compute clusters, respectively.

The company estimates that the new cores deliver industry-leading performance per diem and performance per unit of power, outperforming current-generation GPUs by 20 times or more. More specifically, PowerVR Series6 performance is in the 100 GFLOPS - 1 TFLOPS range.
Series6 graphics cores support the OpenGL ES (Halti), OpenGL 3.x/4.x, OpenCL 1.x, and DirectX 10 APIs. Some family members will be fully DirectX11.1 compatible.

PowerVR Series6 cores are now available for licensing.
