Focus Description:

In appearance, it resembles an ordinary round painted tin tray, reaching 25 cm in diameter, but it has the ability to absorb coins placed on it in the most amazing way.

A known number of coins collected from the audience is placed on a dish. The magician, standing a few steps from the spectators, openly takes them one by one; but as soon as his fingers touch them, they disappear.

His sleeves, which during the trick arouse many undeserved suspicions, can be carefully examined; but even if he had rolled up his sleeves to the elbow, the result would have been the same.

A closer examination of the dish (which the conjurer should not allow) would reveal that although the dish is made of metal, it is essentially double, and between its upper and lower surfaces there is a space that can accommodate many coins.

The middle part of the upper surface is movable; it is convex in the middle and held in place by four small springs.

When the magician takes the coin (he tries to keep it on the convex central part), he quickly presses it and at the same time quickly moves it to the outer rim.

The movable part of the plate gives way to pressure and, as a result (as shown in the figure), the coin flies under the outer rim between the upper and lower surfaces of the plate.

The movable part rises again to its place as soon as the minute pressure stops.

Focus Absorbing Dish

The tray is painted in such a way that the round lines of the pattern correspond to the outer contours of the movable part and will withstand any inspection without feeling.

The absorbing dish can be introduced into many tricks in which the number of coins must be increased (see above). The coins to be added magically are placed on a dish, from where they are taken one by one and are ordered to pass into the hands of the one who holds the coins.

It can also be used in conjunction with a glass and you will hear every coin that disappears from the dish fall into the glass.

Collect some coins from the audience. Put them on a dish. Being a few steps away from the audience, openly take them one by one. However, as soon as your fingers touch the coins, they will disappear. The dish will absorb them in the most amazing way. Your sleeves, which cause a lot of undeserved suspicion during the trick, can be carefully examined; but even if you roll up your sleeves to the elbow, the result will be the same.

Focus secret:

In appearance, the dish resembles an ordinary tin - round and painted - tray, diameter - 25 cm. Although the dish consists of metal, it is double: between the upper and lower surfaces there is a space in which many coins can be placed.

The middle part of the upper surface is movable. It is convex in the middle and is held in place by four small springs. When you pick up a coin (try to keep it on the convex central part), then quickly press it and quickly move it to the outer rim.

The movable part of the dish gives way to pressure, and as a result, the coin enters the slot under the outer rim between the upper and lower surfaces of the dish. As soon as the pressure stops, the moving part rises back into place.

The dish is painted in such a way that the round lines of the pattern correspond to the external outlines of the movable part and will withstand any inspection without feeling.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Public map of the state of the world's forests 27.02.2014

On February 20, 2014, the World Resources Institute, in partnership with Global Forest Watch, launched a new website. In tandem with this site, a geographic information system based on ArcGIS technologies was launched, which allows you to quickly track the loss of forests around the world.

The new geoinformation service allows monitoring the state of the planet's forests in near real time and combines satellite observation data, maps of protected areas, information from researchers' mobile terminals, and an array of information from Esri databases, such as Landsat.

The new geo-information service Global Forest Watch is intended for everyone who is interested in preserving the forests of our planet, including volunteers, government officials, buyers and suppliers of wood. According to Esri experts, real-time monitoring using geoinformation technologies should improve the efficiency of forest resource management, improve the quality of life of people and the ecological situation.

With the help of a geographic information portal on the Esri platform, anyone can now get data collected by Global Forest Watch specialists - information from satellites and from many other sources. Moreover, authorized users can add new datasets and applications to implement their research projects, which involve the analysis of various indicators related to changes in the forest cover of the planet and individual regions.

Global Forest Watch is a partnership of over 40 organizations led by the World Resources Institute. This community traditionally makes extensive use of geographic information systems designed for forest resource management. Unfortunately, monitoring the state of forest cover is still a difficult problem. Meanwhile, there are fewer and fewer untouched forests on the planet. So, contrary to the popular belief that Russia is a country of vast expanses of untouched nature, according to 10-year-old data, only 26% of Russian forest areas have escaped the impact of industrial and agricultural human activities. The control of forest use is complicated by the fact that traditional methods of monitoring often do not keep up with the pace of industrial development.
