Focus Description:

How to give the audience a choice of one card, and then make a random card from the deck turn into one of the favorites.

Focus secret:

Invite one of the spectators to choose a card. This card does not need to be forced, but you must know it, so when you return a card to the deck, you put your little finger on it and, using a volt, you move it down. Next, you make a false shuffle on the first option, which leaves this card at the bottom.

Again you make a volt and transfer the card to the middle of the deck and then force it to three spectators in succession, each time making a false shuffle. This card, let's call it A, you leave in the hands of the last one to choose.

Now you are shuffling the deck for real, because there is no card in the deck. Again, you invite one of the spectators to choose a card, let's call it B. You open the deck and ask to put cards in it, first let B do it, and card A will cover it from above. You transfer these cards up using the volt, and then hide in the palm of your hand. After that, you let one of the spectators shuffle the deck.

Taking the shuffled deck, you place the hidden cards on top of it. Then, as if after a little thought, you take as many cards from the top as the number of cards chosen by the audience. These cards include A and B.

Now you show these four cards to each of the choosers and ask them to say if his card is among them. But you ask them not to name the card. All spectators confirm that they see their card. Then you put these cards in different parts of the deck, and you put the really chosen cards in the middle together, and then, making a volt, you transfer them to the top of the deck.

After that, you invite another spectator to choose a card, let's call it C. Showing card C to each of the choosers, you ask: "Your card?" Of course, they say "No" to you. Having heard this answer from the latter, you change this card according to the first method of replacing cards with the top one. You now have card A in your hand, B is at the top of the deck, and C is at the bottom of the deck.
You say, without showing card A: "Everyone confirmed that this is not your card, but it was necessary to think carefully. I ask you again: "Is this your card?" With these words, you turn to the first viewer. He has to admit that he was wrong. Then you lightly blow on the card and say that it was his a minute ago, and now it has turned into a card of this spectator and turn to the second spectator. And this viewer confirms that the card is his. You also show the third spectator the card and ask him to look at the back of the card before confirming. After that, you say that everyone has already recognized their cards, and at the same time change card A to card B.

After your words, the spectator who chose card B will be reminded that you did not show him the card. You look embarrassed and ask what his card was. After receiving the answer, you ask to look at the card in your hand, and by turning it over, you confirm that this card has become his.

Now you change the card in your hand to any card in the deck and say: "Each of you has already seen your card. But no one chose this card," and show them the card that you hold in your hand.

In any trick based on forcing a card, it may happen that the spectator draws another card after all. This is easy to fix.

As you remember, the first card is chosen completely freely. You must draw the attention of the public to this fact, therefore, before the trick, you need to let several people shuffle the deck. When a card is chosen, offer the chooser to take another card at the slightest doubt in his freedom of choice. It doesn't matter if he accepts your offer, but your interest in a particular card will be proven.

If you fail to force the card to the second spectator, then leave the taken card in the hands of the spectator and try to force the next spectator to force card A. You turn the card that was left in the hands of the previous spectator into card B, according to the previous description.

If you fail to force the second time, then you again replace it with card C. On this card you will have to finish the focus.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Depression reduces the effectiveness of chemotherapy 23.12.2016

The patient's depressive state significantly reduces the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatment - the mechanism of this phenomenon was described by researchers from the Chinese University of Zhengzhou.

Patients with depression had lower blood levels of a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which worsened their response to the drug and contributed to more frequent side effects from treatment.

The researchers worked with 186 patients who had recently been diagnosed with cancer and were receiving chemotherapy. The day before the start of treatment, scientists determined their emotional state and severity of depression. Other patient information was also collected to look for possible patterns.

Predictably, the highest levels of depression are diagnosed in people whose cancer has spread to multiple organs. Such patients responded worse to chemotherapy and more often showed various side effects from the treatment. The content of the BDNF protein in the blood of patients directly correlated with the number of cells that died from chemotherapy.

The authors of the work note that doctors should pay more attention to the emotional state of the patient. However, more research is needed to show exactly how antidepressants affect the increase in the level of the BDNF protein in the blood, and hence the effectiveness of treatment. Based on these data, it will be possible to develop new treatment protocols for cancer patients, taking into account their mental state.
