Focus Description:

How to make three cards move from one part of the deck to another when the parts of the deck are in the hands of different people.

Focus secret:

You show the audience a deck of cards that is still in its wrapper. Give it to one of the spectators to print it out and count it. Of course, the viewer will confirm that the deck is full - it contains 32 or 54 cards. After this, you invite the spectator to divide the deck approximately equally and keep one half for himself. When he chooses his part of the deck, ask him to count the cards in the chosen part. By doing this, you distract the spectators’ attention from yourself and at this time you can hide in your hand three cards from another deck, which is a duplicate of the one that was in the spectator’s hands.

Before the trick, you can hide this duplicate deck in the right secret pocket of your jacket or hold it in the palm of your right hand.

Let the spectator, after counting the cards, say that he has 20 cards. You ask the spectator to hold them in his hand as tightly as possible, while moving the cards to the spectator and while moving, add cards hidden in his hand to them. Ask the spectator to hold the cards high above his head so everyone can see them clearly. Next, you say that since the spectator has 20 cards in his hands, then the other part of the deck should consist of 12. You begin to count the cards out loud, throwing them one at a time on the table.

Then you take the deck in your left hand and, trimming them as you fold them, separate three cards from them and hide them in the palm of your right hand. With the words: “Here are twelve cards for you and make sure they are safe,” you give the cards to another spectator. Then you put three cards in your jacket pocket and raise your hand up so everyone can see that it is empty.

“Now I will show you a very interesting phenomenon. You all saw that the cards were not in my hands after recounting. They were in the reliable hands of the spectators. Next, by an effort of will, I will send the cards from one spectator to another. But I ask you to help me and mentally send one card each time I touch the magic wand. One! Two! Three! - Count the cards!" All spectators will be convinced that the cards really “moved” from one part of the deck to another.

The likelihood that one of the spectators will guess to count the entire deck again and thereby reveal the trick is very small.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Mindful sleep preparation helps you fall asleep 06.03.2022

Stress keeps you awake, and many try to cope with this with medications that are not always safe for health. Researchers at the University of Michigan have found that there is another way to get yourself to sleep that is safer and possibly more effective.

Getting ready for sleep, we perform a series of actions: we make the bed, brush our teeth, set the alarm clock, etc. This ritual is repeated every day, and is believed to help the brain calm down and get ready for sleep. However, so far no one has shown directly that there is a causal relationship between the "pre-sleep" ritual and the quality of sleep.

Meanwhile, animals also behave in a certain way before going to bed - just watch a dog or a cat, how they spin in place, trampling a hole in a soft bedding or on a sofa, lick themselves and go through different poses before falling asleep. The researchers decided to observe mice that are preparing to go to sleep, and to observe not only the behavior of the mice themselves, but also the activity of brain neurons. In the hypothalamus, it was possible to find neurons that become active just during the “pre-sleep” ritual. The hypothalamus is a small center in the brain that controls hunger, thirst, metabolism, body temperature, and more, including how the brain sleeps.

If mice that want to sleep are not allowed to nest, the mice will fall asleep for a long time and sleep poorly. And if you suppress the activity of those very neurons in the hypothalamus, then the mice will stop performing the usual “pre-sleep” ritual, and will also begin to fall asleep for a long time and sleep poorly. That is, these neurons, controlling "pre-sleep" behavior, help to fall asleep. From this we can conclude that one should not neglect the evening routine, no matter how lazy it is to go to the bathroom and do what is supposed to. Here it is worth thinking about new, more effective drugs that will specifically act on the neurons of "pre-sleep" behavior - it is possible that they will turn out to be safer than conventional sedatives and sleeping pills.
