Focus Description:

On the table there are two bowls (upside down) and a glass with confetti. Show the audience the first bowl: it is empty. Pour some of the confetti from the glass into it. Everyone sees how little confetti there is in the bowl. The audience should also show the second bowl - let them see that it is empty too. Now cover the bowl with confetti with it and immediately remove it. There is so much confetti in the bottom bowl that it spills over the edge.

Place the bowl with confetti on the table and again show the audience the empty bowl. Next, cover the bowl with confetti with it and immediately remove it. Everyone sees: there is a bowl on the table, filled to the brim with water. To make sure the audience has no doubts, spill water on the floor.

Focus Bowls and confetti

Focus secret:

The secret of this trick is that one of the bowls is filled with water in advance and tightly closed with a circle of transparent celluloid film of the same diameter as the top edge of the bowl.

The edges of the bowl must be smooth so that the celluloid adheres well to them. To do this, it is better to sand them with sandpaper.

Before performing, immerse the bowl in water and cover it with a circle. Be sure to make sure that there are no air bubbles left under the celluloid, otherwise the water will leak out ahead of time. Carefully remove the bowl from the water, wipe it thoroughly and place it upside down on the table. The surface tension of the water will prevent it from flowing out.

So you poured confetti from a glass into an empty bowl and showed it to the audience. As soon as you cover the bowl with the second one that is filled with water, quietly turn the bowls over so that it is at the bottom. Then remove the top one. A pile of confetti on the film will create the illusion that the bowl is full to the brim.

Now, according to the trick scenario, you must cover the bowl of water again with another one. At the same time, wrap your fingers around its edges so as to grab the celluloid film from the lower bowl.

Remove the top bowl and place it on the table. The bottom one is full of water.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Jet surfing 08.11.2022

Florida-based startup Jetson Surf Technology has created an electric jet-powered surfboard.

The prototype, called Jetson, has four speed modes, the last of which implies acceleration up to 10 km / h, which opens up new opportunities for lovers of water extreme sports.

The board is made of epoxy resin, equipped with four removable fins and a motor that provides up to 9 kg of thrust. The motor is driven by a waterproof touchpad built into the body, where users can choose between four speed settings, from 25% power at which the board accelerates to 3 km/h to 100% at 10 km/h.

The idea behind the modes is that lower speeds can be used to help surfers when they are shunning or holding a waiting position in strong currents, while higher speeds can help them navigate and catch waves.

When the maximum power mode is activated, the engine will run at this rate for 12 seconds, and then decrease to 75% for another 100 seconds, after which it will automatically turn off unless the user chooses to do this manually. When using 25% and 50% power, the motor shuts off after 100 seconds.

Indiegogo offers a choice of 2m, 2,4m and 2,7m boards that weigh 8,6kg, 9,5kg and 10,4kg respectively.

The price starts at $4950, and deliveries will begin in June next year.
