The performer takes a deck of cards, preferably satin. In order for the cards to slide easily and open like a fan at the right time, they must be lubricated with talcum powder (baby powder). With a small cotton swab, a little powder is applied to each card. Then they put it in a deck, divide it in half and both halves rub against each other for some time. After that, the cards become elastic and sliding. Now you can start warming up. Dividing the deck of cards in half again, you need to take half of the deck in each hand, holding it between your index finger and little finger, clamping tightly around the edges. The reverse side of the cards is held by the middle and ring fingers, while the thumbs remain free (Fig. 59, A).

It is necessary to remember this initial position of the fingers and repeat the movement until the cards no longer crumble. The next move is much more difficult: you need to open the cards in a fan at the same time in both hands. The thumbs are the first to engage in this movement. They are placed on the sides of the cards adjacent to them and set in motion each half of their part of the deck, opening the cards in a fan in one direction and at the same time holding them on one side. The index fingers and little fingers are released at this time.

The index finger helps the thumb hold the cards from the back. And at this time, the little finger, together with the ring and middle fingers, fan out in the opposite direction the second half of the deck, which is held between these three fingers on one side and the “cushion” of the base of the thumb on the other (Fig. 59, C and D). All this work must be done simultaneously in one second. The faster, the more effective the exercise, built on the manipulation technique, will look.

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Implanted brain stimulator 30.04.2024

In recent years, scientific research in the field of neurotechnology has made enormous progress, opening new horizons for the treatment of various psychiatric and neurological disorders. One of the significant achievements was the creation of the smallest implanted brain stimulator, presented by a laboratory at Rice University. Called Digitally Programmable Over-brain Therapeutic (DOT), this innovative device promises to revolutionize treatments by providing more autonomy and accessibility to patients. The implant, developed in collaboration with Motif Neurotech and clinicians, introduces an innovative approach to brain stimulation. It is powered through an external transmitter using magnetoelectric power transfer, eliminating the need for wires and large batteries typical of existing technologies. This makes the procedure less invasive and provides more opportunities to improve patients' quality of life. In addition to its use in treatment, resist ... >>

The perception of time depends on what one is looking at 29.04.2024

Research in the field of the psychology of time continues to surprise us with its results. Recent discoveries by scientists from George Mason University (USA) turned out to be quite remarkable: they discovered that what we look at can greatly influence our sense of time. During the experiment, 52 participants took a series of tests, estimating the duration of viewing various images. The results were surprising: the size and detail of the images had a significant impact on the perception of time. Larger, less cluttered scenes created the illusion of time slowing down, while smaller, busier images gave the feeling of time speeding up. Researchers suggest that visual clutter or detail overload can make it difficult to perceive the world around us, which in turn can lead to faster perception of time. Thus, it was shown that our perception of time is closely related to what we look at. Larger and smaller ... >>

Transgenic product causes allergies 11.10.2006

Biotechnologist Thomas Higgins from Canberra (Australia) transplanted bean genes into peas in order to ward off beetle larvae from peas, which feed only on them and do not digest beans.

However, after Higgins fed bug-resistant peas to mice to test the edibility of the new product, many of the rodents developed pneumonia. It turned out that the bean genes changed the structure of the pea protein molecules, replacing the sugar molecules at the ends of the protein chains. As a result, the altered molecules began to cause allergies in the lungs.

This is the first case of direct evidence of the danger of transgenic products, and with genes taken not from microbes, fish or insects, but from a related representative of the plant world.
