EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Red and White. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: Taking an ordinary penknife out of his pocket, the performer shows it to the audience and passes it to them for inspection when folded. After making sure that the knife is really the most ordinary one, that its handle is white on both sides and there are no secrets in it, the audience calmly returns it. The performer puts the knife on the open palm of his left hand. Then, showing that he has nothing in his right palm, he runs it over his left palm with a knife, as if stroking and covering it for a moment, and then immediately removes his right palm from his left. The left palm is still open, and the knife lies on it, but its handle is no longer white, as before, but red. The performer again runs an empty right palm over his left, and the knife again becomes white. With the repetition of these stroking movements, the handle of the knife changes color each time, becoming either white or red. The performer again gives the audience this knife for inspection. They examine it even more closely, revealing the blade. The knife is the same, no secrets. Focus secret: For this trick, you need two identical knives, but one has a white handle on both sides, the second has white on one side and red on the other. Both knives are placed in a jacket pocket in advance. The first, the handle of which is white on both sides, goes into the main pocket. In the same pocket there should also be a secret pocket. This is where the second knife is placed. But the main focus is to be able to deftly change knives. Success depends on this. The performer takes out the first knife from his pocket, with a white handle. He shows it and passes it on to the audience for inspection, thereby focusing their attention on this knife, and at this time, having seized the moment, he takes the second knife from a secret pocket and holds it in his left hand. When the audience has finished examining the first knife, the performer collects it and returns to the stage. At this time, he imperceptibly and quickly lowers the first knife into his pocket, and holds his left hand with the second knife clenched in his fist high above his head, fixing the attention of the audience on this. On stage, the magician opens his left palm, puts a knife on it with the white side of the handle up and shows it to the audience. Then, in a sliding motion, he runs his open right palm along the surface of the knife, while turning it with the red side up. The demonstration then proceeds as described at the beginning. Having finished the trick, the performer must also quietly get the first knife out of his pocket and go to the audience with it, and in the meantime hide the second one in his pocket.
