Focus Description:

On the illusion table lies a sheet of paper rolled up into a tube. The performer takes it, unfolds it and shows it to the audience. Viewers see that it is a blank sheet of paper. Then the magician rolls a pound out of it. Holding it with his left hand, the performer shows the right hand to the audience. There is nothing in the hand. The performer makes such a movement with it, as if he had caught something in the air and put it in a pound. Having invited an assistant to the stage, the performer overturns a small pound over the tray, which she holds in her hands, and bright flowers fall out of it (Fig. 24).

After that, the magician unfolds the funky and again shows the audience a blank sheet of paper. Then he again makes a pound out of it and passes it to his left hand. With his right hand, which he first shows to the audience, the performer again, as it were, catches something in the air and puts it in a pound. He again knocks the pound over the tray held by the assistant, and flowers again fall from the pound. The artist does all this for the third time. Having filled the tray with flowers, the performer unfolds the funky and once again shows the audience a blank sheet of paper.

Focus secret:

To demonstrate this trick, you will need a sheet of Whatman paper the size of a newspaper page and 60-70 paper flowers. This number of colors must be divided into three parts. Each part is placed in a box. One pack is placed somewhat away from the left corner of the paper sheet, the second - away from the right corner, and the third - in the middle of the sheet. Now you need to cut three paper strips. Each paper strip is placed like a belt across the petals and its ends are glued to the paper sheet with pieces of plaster (Fig. 24, B).

Thanks to this, all packs of flowers will fit snugly against the paper sheet. And this makes it possible to twist and fold the sheet as you like.

Having prepared a paper sheet for demonstrating the trick, it is rolled up into a tube so that the bundles of flowers are inside, and placed on the illusion table. The tube is unrolled, holding a sheet of paper with both hands and turning its clean side towards the audience. Then a funnel is made from the sheet and, turning it upside down, twist the corner. This especially convinces the audience that there is nothing in the pound.

Having made a movement with his right hand, as if he was catching something in the air, the performer, putting an imaginary object into the pound, inserts his right hand into it and quickly tears off the paper belt from one of the packs of flowers. Freed from the girdle, the flowers open and fill the bag. Having invited an assistant, the performer pours the contents of the pound onto the tray. Then he does the same movements a second and a third time.

The production of flowers deserves special attention. They are made from tissue paper like paper balls for the Christmas tree. The shape of flowers can be any - and spherical and elliptical. The outer petals of each flower should be made green, and the inner petals should be of different colors, but always bright. Flowers should be easy to fold when "charging" and quickly open at the right time. They achieve this with the help of an ordinary clock spring from a damaged alarm clock. Such a spring is a thin plate twisted into a spiral. Unwinding it, cut off pieces 4-5 cm long from the spring. Each of them is bent in half. There should be as many segments of the spring as there will be colors.

Each bent plate is placed on the middle of the petal (Fig. 24, D) and glued with the second petals. The outer petals of both halves of the flower are double, and the plate is laid between them. Thanks to this, the flower can be easily folded and attached to a paper sheet. Now it is only necessary to release the flower from the girdle, as it will instantly open.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Vinyl record sales surpass CD sales for the first time 11.03.2023

In 2022, vinyl record sales surpassed CD sales for the first time, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This has happened for the first time since 1987.

Last year, 41,3 million records were sold worldwide against 33,4 million CDs. In monetary terms, the gap is even bigger: $1,2 billion versus $482,6 million. At the end of last year, records accounted for 71,2% of all revenue in the physical music media market.

It can also be noted that the overall revenue in the music recording market continues to grow. While 2021 results were roughly in line with the market peak in 1999, 2022 revenue grew even more, reaching almost $16 billion.

Of course, the lion's share falls on the digital format. Or rather, for subscription services.
