Focus Description:

The suitcase turns into a table.

Focus secret:

You have a suitcase in your hands (fig.a). Open it and, having opened the lid, turn it upside down - four legs will instantly fall out of the suitcase. Put an open suitcase on them, and it will turn into a table (Fig. b)!

Focus Turning a suitcase into a table

To turn a suitcase into a table, a medium-sized suitcase is suitable. It is best to make it from plywood. To do this, glue a rectangular box of the required size and cut it lengthwise into two equal parts. Attach a handle, hinges to it, arrange accordingly - and the suitcase is ready.

Inside it - along each part - with the help of brackets, strengthen the four legs (Fig. c). They can be both wooden and hollow metal - the main thing is that they are light. With the help of hinges in brackets, the legs freely (if you turn the suitcase over) with the lower end fall down and just as easily (if you return the suitcase to its original position), turning along the axis, enter it back.

So that the legs fall out instantly, and then do not hang out, fasten a flat spring on each leg (fig. d). One half of it - to the top of the leg, the other - to the wall of the suitcase, on which the leg rests.

When the legs are folded inside the suitcase, fasten the stopper that rotates to the sides on top of them. Then, if you turn over an open suitcase, the legs will not fall out of it, and if there are springs, they will not rise up in the unturned state of the suitcase.

Holding the closed suitcase by the handle, show it to the audience. Then open it and, holding the long edges, turn the legs towards you. Immediately (or when needed) use your fingers to slide the stoppers to the side. The springs will instantly push the legs down. Put the finished table on the floor for viewing by the audience.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The harm of music before bed 27.06.2021

Michael Scullin, professor of psychology and neuroscience at Baylor University, conducted a study on sleep patterns. In his work, Dr. Scullin studied the relationship between music indulgence before bed and the quality of sleep. The main topic for study was the phenomenon of "ear worms": obsessive repetitions of the same melody that "gets stuck" in our head and involuntarily scrolls through the brain over and over again.

Usually we can notice this during the daytime, but Dr. Scullin has proven that the same problem happens to us in our sleep. At the same time, the quality of sleep becomes worse and it does not bring the proper benefit to the body.

The scientist based his conclusions on experiments with volunteers, in which more than two hundred people participated, answering various questions about musical habits and sleep quality. All of these music lovers experienced earworm syndrome.

In addition, fifty volunteers were invited to conduct the experiment at the Neurobiology and Cognitive Research Laboratory at Baylor University. In all participants, scientists tried to induce the effect of "ear worms" in order to empirically evaluate their effect on the quality of sleep. At the same time, the activity of the brain, the work of the body and the quality of sleep were assessed using a polysomnograph.

It turned out that those who were used to listening to tunes and songs for the future to sleep in order to sleep better, constantly suffered from the phenomenon of "ear worms" and experienced problems with sleep. This refutes the common belief that music in the evening helps to fall asleep and sleep better. The brain, even during sleep, does not stop analyzing the data obtained while listening to music, which reduces the quality of rest.
