EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Chicken in a light bulb. Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: On the table is an electric lamp under a lampshade. The assistant takes out on a tray a large crystal glass, a chicken egg and a knife. The magician takes an egg and, breaking it with a knife, pours it into a glass. Then, taking a small silk handkerchief, he covers the glass with it and puts it on the lampshade (Fig. 129).
After a few seconds, she pulls the handkerchief off the glass and puts it on the table. The glass is empty. The lamp goes out for a moment; the performer twists it under the lampshade and shows it to the audience, who see that there is a small live chicken inside the light bulb. Taking a knife, the illusionist carefully breaks the lamp, takes out the chicken, puts it in his palm and shows it to the audience. Props: Large crystal glass with a device. A small colored silk handkerchief lined. Glass cylinder of an electric lamp with a socle. Live little chicken. Small tray and knife. Table lamp with lampshade. Focus secret: There are two secrets in this trick: the first is a glass into which the contents of the egg are poured, the second is a light bulb with a chicken. A large crystal glass with a capacity of 100-150 g. It has a glass insert, which is made according to the shape and is included in it. The walls of the insert fit snugly against the walls of the glass, creating the illusion of a single vessel. The insert is shown by dotted line A and next to it separately in Fig. 130. Its upper edges are bent at an angle outward and slightly protrude beyond the edges of the glass. For these sides, the insert can be easily removed from the glass after the egg has been poured into it. (At the same time, it seems to the audience that the egg is poured into a glass, since they cannot see the insert that merges into one with the glass).
Removing the handkerchief from the glass, the magician at the same time imperceptibly removes the insert. He puts the handkerchief on the table as if casually, but in fact he is carefully watching so that the contents of the egg do not spill out of the insert. It is good to make a scarf lined with thin plastic or oilcloth. Then you can casually turn it over without fear that the liquid will spill out. Following this board, you can also, with a casual gesture, put it on the table under the cover of any object. There is another way: to make an insert from collodion, which dries quickly, forming a very thin transparent and fairly strong film. Collodium is poured over the inside of the glass and allowed to harden slightly. Then the upper edges of the glass are also poured over so that an insert of the same shape is formed as in fig. 130, A. After the collodion is completely dry, the resulting film is carefully separated from the glass. If it breaks, lightly pour collodium over the torn area and dry it. At the same time, it is necessary to learn how to skillfully take a bag of collodion under the scarf by the edges. After removing the handkerchief from the glass, you can crush it in your hands, make sure that the yolk and protein do not spill out from under the handkerchief. You can make an insert from organic thin glass (plexiglass), which easily takes any shape in hot water, or glue it from a sheet of thin transparent plastic. True, it must be taken into account that the gluing of the seam would not be visible to the audience through the transparent wall of the glass. After performing the trick, the glass can be given to the audience for inspection, after wiping it with a handkerchief, removing accidental drops of liquid. The second secret of the trick - a chicken sitting in a light bulb - requires the use of a special glass balloon; however, you can get by with conventional (burnt out) large-sized electric lamps by carefully sawing off the balloon from the base. On fig. 131 shows such a light bulb in section.
A live chicken is placed in balloon A. A small side G is attached to the base B, made from a strip of adhesive plaster or insulating tape. Cylinder A with a chicken is put on over the side D and connected to it with a narrow band of plaster. This connection should not be evident to the audience. To prevent the chicken from suffocating, a small hole is made in the balloon. The chick is placed in the lamp a few minutes before the number is shown. The light bulb prepared in this way is placed in a nest specially made for it, hidden under the lampshade. The magician only pretends to twist the nearby burning lamp, but in reality he simply twists the balloon. To make it easily broken, an incision is made in advance with a diamond or a file file in the right place. A real light bulb is extinguished at the right moment, and the illusionist "twists" and takes out a cylinder with a chicken from under the lampshade. Having broken the balloon, he holds it on his hand, making sure not to hurt the chick. There is a more advanced design, consisting of a small but powerful light bulb, on which a glass bottle B is put on (Fig. 130); a chicken is placed in it. This balloon is tightly put on light bulb B. In order for air to pass freely inside the balloon, a small hole is made at the top. To strengthen the balloon on the light bulb, a narrow strip of sticky plaster is used, which is tightly wrapped around the lower part adjacent to the base. This strip is shown in Figure 130, D. Using this design, there is no need to make a special nest under the lampshade for a balloon with a chicken. You can completely do with one light bulb, which burns very brightly, illuminating the lampshade from the inside. After turning off the light, the light bulb is turned out, the balloon put on it is broken, and the chicken is released from the "captivity". Do not forget to protect the bird from burns. To do this, just put a piece of asbestos under his paws. There is another design of a light bulb (divided into two parts in length). But its manufacture is very difficult, so we will not describe it here. Author: Vadimov A.A.
