A study conducted in the United States shows that leaders of healthcare institutions see great prospects for Big Data technologies in the medical field, despite personnel problems and possible risks.

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) conducted a study that surveyed the leaders of health care institutions and health insurance companies in the United States. According to the report following the results of the study, 66% of leaders see the great potential of big data technologies in healthcare, while 87% believe that the analysis of big data in the future will greatly affect their business. Half of those surveyed expect that the adoption of big data analytics technologies can bring great benefits to their organization.

45% of respondents testified to the great positive impact of Big Data on their practice. 22% reported that they have already benefited significantly from building a big data analytics infrastructure. The authors of the report believe that the ratio of the number of those who recognize the possible benefits of Big Data to the number of those who have already implemented these solutions indicates a voluntary refusal to implement Big Data.

More than 84% faced difficulties in finding employees to optimize big data analytics, 45% plan to hire professionals in this field during 2014.

The report notes the confusion of healthcare leaders in the use of Big Data, when the analysis of big data is carried out not just to obtain information, but to take action and concrete actions. Many do not know how to use these technologies and are trying to find out where they can be useful. 51% of CEOs believe their organizations are capable of leveraging growing data.
