Focus Description:

During the session, the performer shows one of the spectators a wand that has "magic" properties. "Now you are convinced of the magical properties of the wand?" he asks. He, of course, answers in the negative. The magician gives him the wand a second time, saying that he simply did not notice these properties.

"You see, in my hands the wand behaves obediently, but if you take it, it will not obey." With these words, the performer passes the stick to the viewer, but as soon as it falls into his hands, it immediately bends and loses its shape (Fig. 34).

"What have you done! Convinced that the wand does not obey you?" The magician takes the wand from the hands of the viewer, and it again turns into a straight and whole one, the illusionist again gives it to the public for inspection.

"Magic" wand with a secret device.

Exactly the same simple wand.

Focus secret:

The secret lies in the fact that the stick is made in a cord braid, which is filled with small circles carved from wood. Holes are made in them through which a very strong plastic thread is passed. It is attached to the circles at the end of the stick. If you hold the stick loosely, then the mugs sag and the stick loses its shape. One has only to pull one of the circles at the end, as the stick becomes straight and hard.

Making a wand is not difficult. They take a piece of curtain cord or electric wire and take out the entire middle from it. Only one textile braid remains (Fig. 35, A). 14 circles are turned out of wood (Fig. 35, B), 25 mm long and 15 mm in diameter. Holes 2 mm in diameter are drilled in the middle. All 14 circles (they must have beveled, rounded edges) are strung on a strong plastic thread; a braid is neatly put on top of them. The ends of the braid at both ends are carefully sewn to narrow strips of mothers. The ends of the threads are firmly tied to metal, specially machined tips with hooks at the bottom. The binding is adjusted in such a way that in the loose state the stick would have kinks and bend, and as soon as one of the tips is pulled, it becomes straight and elastic.

The tips are clearly visible in Fig. 35, B. They protrude slightly at the ends of the stick, they can be easily pulled back, thereby straightening the stick. Nickel-plated metal tubes are put on its ends; the middle (braid) is painted black.

In the inside pocket of the suit, the magician holds two wands. One of them - with the described device, the second - its exact copy, made of wood. At the right moment, the performer first gives the viewer a simple stick, and then, having exchanged it, hands over the already prepared one. In the same way, the performer exchanges the prepared stick for a simple one, which at the end of the performance he again gives for inspection. You should not leave the first wand (with the secret) in the hands of the viewer for a long time, otherwise he may guess what's wrong.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Bacteria follow commands 23.01.2017

Scientists were able to control the work of bacteria with the help of light. With the application of knowledge in the field of synthetic biology and genetic engineering, the process of controlling the vital activity of E. coli became possible.

According to scientists, bacteria, which will be programmed in the right way, can bring benefits to human health. Feeling some deviations from the norm, the bacteria can either compensate for the imbalance, or warn the person about the upcoming disease. In their work, scientists used a special method using redox molecules. With the help of redox processes, molecules were able to exchange electrons.

For experiments, scientists used bacteria such as Escherichia coli (E. coli). These bacteria are very sensitive to oxidative reactions. The scientific experiment consisted in the fact that the electrode was immersed in a solution with Escherichia coli bacteria.

When the electrode was positively charged, some of the redox molecules activated, stimulating the reaction of microbes to the reagent. With a negative charge of the electrode, the redox molecules ceased their action. The goal of turning bacteria on and off was achieved by scientists in this way.

An important result was achieved by minimal costs. In the future, these developments are planned to be officially recognized, over the course of 1-2 years some more scientific tests will be carried out to fix the achieved goal in general.
