EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Twin boxes. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: Going down into the hall, the magician says: “I have two completely identical boxes in my hands. To distinguish between them, I had to stick a red square on the bottom of one of them, and a blue one on the bottom of the other. How else can you distinguish between these twins ?! Examine them and make sure they don't have any secret devices." The audience examines two small, almost cubic boxes, completely black, they are really distinguished only by colored stickers on the bottoms (Fig. 16). Inside the boxes have the same bright, orange color.
Having familiarized several spectators with the boxes, the artist takes them to the stage and puts them side by side on the same table, and passes two cubes - blue and red - to the hall for familiarization. Then, taking one of the boxes, he goes to the audience and, showing that he has a box with a blue bottom in his hands, approaches the viewer, who at that time has a blue cube, and asks him to put this cube inside the box. Returning to the stage, the presenter addresses the audience: “Thus, in a box with a blue bottom,” shows the bottom, “there is a blue cube,” opening the lid, shows the cube and puts the box on the table from which he took it. Immediately, the artist takes the second box and, showing that its bottom is red, approaches the viewer with a red cube; he puts it inside the box, and the artist returns to the stage again and places this box next to the first one. At the forefront are two tables at some distance from each other. On them, the magician carries the boxes one at a time. Taking the first box and showing the audience the color of its bottom, he places it on one of the tables in the foreground. On the second one, he transfers the next box, also previously showing the color of its bottom. The artist asks the spectators, sitting opposite the respective tables, to keep a vigilant eye on the boxes that are on these tables; thus, one half of the audience watches the box with a blue bottom and a blue cube in it, and the other half follows the box with a red bottom and a red cube. "I will ask one of those present, who wants to help me, to go up to the stage." When the assistant is found, the magician, taking his salt shaker, sprinkles the "magic powder" on this volunteer and his hands, and then passes the salt shaker to him and asks him to sprinkle the "magic powder" on the boxes standing on the proscenium, which he does. After that, the artist, having made several "magic" passes, turning to the spectator-assistant, says: "Let's check what came out of our joint efforts." Both approach one of the tables. The illusionist addresses the audience sitting in front of this table: - Excuse me, I don't remember which box is on this table? - A box with a blue bottom, - those sitting in the hall answer. - Thanks to! - Moves to the next table. - As far as I understand, in front of you is a box with a red bottom? - With red, - follows the answer. - And what cube is in it? - Also red. - Very good, - turning to the assistant: - Look, is it so? When the assistant opened the box, it turned out not to be a red, but a blue cube, although the bottom of the box is really red. On the other table, instead of a blue cube, it turned out to be red, although the box had a blue bottom. - That's right, our joint efforts were not in vain. The dice changed places, but for some reason the audience did not notice this. The magician thanks his volunteer assistant, and he leaves. There is a revival in the hall, the audience is trying to guess how they did not notice when the magician cheated them.
Focus secret: The artist's boxes and cubes were without a catch, otherwise he would not have given them to the audience for a thorough examination. The secret of this trick lies in the overlay, which you see in Figure 17, A. It is a cardboard square pasted around with black matte paper (in which photographic plates are usually wrapped). The size of the pad exactly matches the bottom of our boxes. A colored square is glued on each side of the lining: on one side - red, on the other - blue; they are exactly the same as on the bottoms of our boxes. Now, if you take a box with a red bottom in your hand, put an overlay on it with a blue sticker up and hold it, as shown in Figure 17, B, then it will seem to the audience that you have taken a box with a blue bottom in your hand. This is exactly what our magician did when he went into the hall to the audience for a blue cube. Without removing the pads, he showed the box and the blue die off the stage before putting it back in its original place. When he went to the audience for a red cube, the blue bottom of the box was covered with an overlay with a red sticker on the outside. Taking a salt shaker out of his pocket, the artist left the overlay there, which became unnecessary to him; the salt shaker served as a distraction. Transferring the boxes to separate tables, the magician showed their bottoms without the overlay, and the audience, who did not know the secret of the trick, naturally thought that the boxes contained cubes that exactly matched the color of the bottom of the boxes. This is how the other side of the trick looks, known only to the magician. Making cardboard boxes covered with colored paper inside and out is perhaps the most difficult thing you will have to face when making devices for our tricks. Therefore, here, using the example of twin boxes, we will talk about this in more detail. First of all, you need to stock up on all the necessary materials. The cardboard is not taken thick: 0,8-1 mm, but dense and not wrinkled. Glue - carpentry, dextrin or polyvinyl acetate emulsion. All cutting tools must be well sharpened. You will need - a triangle, a ruler with divisions, a marking pencil, a glue brush and a clean rag for hands. It is better to cut cardboard and paper in straight sections with a knife along the ruler - the pattern and the whole product will turn out cleaner and more beautiful. When pasting cardboard with paper, the glue is applied to the paper, and not vice versa. On fig. 18, And you see a general view of all the details of our box, indicating the required dimensions. It is better to start manufacturing with a box insert. Having marked the cardboard and cutting out the pattern around the perimeter, cut along the dotted lines with a knife to a depth of 1/3 of the thickness of the cardboard and bend the pattern (Fig. 18, a). Then, having unfolded the pattern, it is glued onto colored (orange) paper face down, that is, the cuts on it are turned upwards (Fig. 18, b). Further, by bending the insert, as shown in Figure 18, c, it is fastened with a newspaper strip smeared with glue. Now, having smeared the edges of colored paper with glue, they are folded over and glued outside the liner (Fig. 18, d) - the liner is ready.
We turn to the manufacture of the box itself. Having marked, cut and made cuts along the dotted lines, as mentioned above, the box is bent (Fig. 18, e) and fastened with newspaper strips with glue (Fig. 18, f). After that, the box is glued on the outside with black matte paper, the edges of which are bent at the top into the box, and along the bottom - to its bottom; the last to be glued to the bottom is a square (40x40 mm) piece of black paper (Fig. 18, g). Having smeared the walls inside the box with glue, an insert is inserted into it, and a cardboard square covered with colored orange paper is glued inside on the bottom of the box. This is shown in Figure 18, h. It remains for us to make a lid for our box. Having marked and made cuts along the folds, the pattern is glued onto orange paper and, bent at the corners, fastened with newspaper strips; All this is shown in Figure 18, and. Having glued the side of the lid with a strip of black paper, without bending it inward, but bending it only onto the lid, they finish the work by sticking black paper on the top of the lid, as shown in Fig. 18, k. As you know, we need to make two such boxes, after which a small square of blue paper is glued to the bottom of one of them, and red paper is glued to the bottom of the other. How to make an overlay, we told earlier.
To make the cubes we need in fig. 19 is a pattern. Made from thick paper according to this pattern, the cubes are durable. The dimensions of the cubes for the trick described here are 35x35x35 mm.
