Eight cards chosen at random are thrown onto the table. The spectator is asked to pick up the cards and name them, the magician writes down the cards on eight sheets of paper, which he folds and puts in an ashtray. The spectator takes one piece of paper and, at the request of the magician, places the corresponding card face down on the table. Then the leaf is set on fire.

The magician takes the ashes and rubs them into his hand. The ashes add up to the name of the card - the one that lies on the table.

Props:

A pen and paper, an ashtray, matches or a lighter, a pre-prepared wet bar of soap, a deck of cards folded in the right order.

Focus secret:

1. The "chosen" card must be forced to the spectator, and its name is known in advance. Let's say it's the six of clubs. Write 6T on your forearm with a damp bar of soap. Let the lettering dry - it should remain for another hour or two and not rub off under the sleeve.

2. Now prepare the deck: it just means that the six of clubs should be the bottom or top card of the deck. This can also be done during a trick demonstration: it will not be difficult to transfer the six of clubs to the bottom of the deck, lazily playing cards, and then move it up with the help of a false shuffle.

3. Having said, "We need to pick any card at random for our target," perform any false shuffle and count eight cards face down onto the table. Ask a spectator, let's say Varvara, to take the cards and name them so that you write them down on eight pieces of paper. The leaves should be large enough to produce the right amount of ash when they are set on fire. Whatever cards you are called, do not write their names, but instead write "six of clubs" on each piece of paper, fold them up and put them in an ashtray. Ask Varvara to pull out one of the folded pieces of paper, open it and put the corresponding card face down on the table, and return the remaining seven cards to the deck. You do not need to know the selected card.

4. Take the rest of the folded papers from the ashtray, and if there is no fire nearby to burn them, throw them into your pocket, saying: “I must not look at them, but we will need the ashtray again now. Please put the paper in the ashtray, Barbara "Get some matches and set it on fire. Make sure it burns all over so I can't read what's written on it. Great, there's a lot of ash - we'll need that too."

5. When the fire goes out, say: "And now I want to show you something unusual. As you know, I do not know exactly which eight cards were dealt on the table, and I could not guess which of the eight Varvara pulled out of the ashtray. But nevertheless, the ashes have preserved the name of the card, which was written on a piece of paper, and I'm going to check if it is so well preserved, so that now the name of the card will appear on my hand.

This variant of the trick more or less corresponds to the description in the popular magic book series that came out about 90 years ago. Since then, it has been reprinted and amended several times, but I think that this version is still the most successful. As the author, L. Widdop, suggests, the trick will be even more effective if you have an assistant who is reluctant to "agree" that you rub the ashes into her hand, you warn her of the danger of contact with black magic and ask if she feels how something cold and mysterious crawls up her arm, and horror creeps up to her heart.

6. As you say this, roll up your sleeve to expose your forearm (with dried soap). Take the ashes and carefully rub them on your hand. It will only stick to dry soap, so black marks will appear on your hand: 6T.

7. Say, "The spirit of the six of clubs seems to have been held in the ashes. Did you choose this card, Barbara? Please turn it over for everyone to see. Thank you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to leave to wash the ashen six of clubs from my hand."

A short trip to the bathroom will allow you to get rid of seven pieces of paper that were not set on fire.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Sony IMX324 Ultra-Sensitive Automotive Image Sensor 28.10.2017

Sony has introduced a new 7,72-megapixel IMX324 sensor. The sensor has 7,42 million effective pixels, the highest in the industry. Sensor aspect ratio 1/1,7. Sensitivity is determined at the level of 2666 mV. The resolution of the sensor is such that the camera using it is able to obtain a clear image of a road sign from a distance of about 160 meters. A man can't do that.

Such sensors are designed to work in ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) electronic driver assistance systems. This development, according to Sony, is compatible with the EyeQ4 and EyeQ5 image processors from Mobileye, previously acquired by Intel.

At night, the IMX324 sensors work both in "burst" mode with RCCC filters (red, three clean), when four adjacent pixels work as one (pixel binning mode) to increase sensitivity, and in alternating light / shadow mode. The pixel array for each frame alternately switches from high sensitivity mode for capturing images in dark areas of the scene, to capturing highlights in bright street lighting and in the light of car headlights. The final image, which is "glued together" by a specialized processor, is detailed and relatively contrasting in the shadows and in the light.

Sony IMX324 sensors are capable of capturing images with ambient light as low as 0,1 lux. It's like shooting under the light of a full moon on a cloudless day. Sensors will help to distinguish a pedestrian on the track and possible obstacles at a great distance. Sensors, which is typical for Sony, are multi-layered and designed for stacking, which allows you to make cameras with them compact.
