EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Glass and cards. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The spectator chooses a card at random, and the magician does the same. Everyone knows which card the magician chose because he places it in a glass and covers it with a handkerchief. The spectator's card is known only to the audience and is placed in a shuffled deck, which the magician places face down on the table. The magician says that he will make two cards switch places, then reveals a card in the glass, which turns out to be not the card that was placed there, and the spectator confirms that it is the same card that he chose from the deck. He is asked to look for this card in the deck, but his card is not there; During the search, it turns out that the card placed in the glass is back in the deck. The two cards mysteriously swapped places. Props: Ready deck with double-sided card, glass, large handkerchief. Focus secret: This trick requires a double-sided card. It can be purchased in special stores for magicians, but you can make it yourself (see description below in the text). It is important that the two cards have a white border around the design so that if the cards are not properly aligned, the double sided card will not be too noticeable. Let's say for this trick you need to make a double-sided card: a six of spades on one side and a seven of diamonds on the other. 1. Make sure that the real six of spades (I will call the double-faced card the fake) is on top of the deck, face down. Let the fake card be the fourth from the top, the side with the seven of diamonds should face the same direction as the rest of the cards in the deck. The real seven of diamonds should be the second card from the bottom. There are thus 53 cards in the deck. 2. After removing the deck from the box, place it face down in your left hand. Remove the bottom of the deck with your right hand and place it on top, as if you were shuffling. However, after transferring it to your left hand, take the other half of the deck in your right hand and also place it on top, returning the deck to the original order you prepared. Don't tell the audience that you are shuffling the cards - do it with a slightly absent look, you can do it twice. The purpose of shuffles is to convince the spectator that the deck is not prepared.
3. Tell the audience: “For this little experiment, you must choose a card, Your card will be known only to you, but since I am a kind person, I will show you my card." 4. Place the deck on the table and ask a volunteer to remove it, taking a few cards, say a third of the deck. Let's call this volunteer Anton. Ask him to place his cards face up on the top of the deck. Now ask another volunteer, let it be Lyusya, to remove the deck again, taking more cards than Anton, let’s say half the deck. When she does this, ask her to turn over her cards and place them on top of the deck. 5. Take the deck and thumb through the face-up cards until you reach the first face-down card. Do this very carefully, because the fourth face-down card is a fake card, and no one should see that among the face-down cards there is a card facing up. Holding the face-up cards in your left hand, push the top face-down card from the top of the deck with your thumb and have Anton pick it up and place it face down on the table. You should push the card forward so that Anton does not accidentally move the remaining top cards and reveal a false one. You won't be able to do this trick if the audience wants to approach you from any direction or if someone wants to look behind you. So make sure that everyone, including Anton and Lucy, stays at a distance, as if you are performing in front of them on stage. 6. Say: "So, you and Lucy have chosen this card. You can look at it now. Now I have to choose this card." Place the face-up cards you were holding face down on the top of the deck. All these maneuvers will quite accurately move the fake card closer to the center of the deck. 7. Hold the cards with their backs facing you and fan them out so the audience can see their faces. Of course, the one “back” in the deck facing you is the false six of spades. Pull it out and show it to the audience, saying: “And I’ll choose this one.” Regardless of the reverse side, place it on the table with the side with the six of spades facing down. Make sure that no one in the audience sees the other side of the card. Looking at the card, say: “I chose the seven of diamonds.” 8. Place the deck on the table and say: “Before we move on to your card, Anton, I’m going to put this one in the glass.” Take the glass in your left hand. Pick up the false seven of diamonds with your right hand and place it in the glass so that it stands upright and is visible to the audience. Make sure that the back of the card is not visible to spectators. You, of course, should be able to see the six of spades. 9. Take a handkerchief with your right hand and cover the glass. Removing your right hand, put it under the handkerchief to take the glass from your left hand and place it on the table. Taking the glass, bend your wrist 180° to place it on the table with the six of spades facing the audience (see picture). Practice - and you will see that you can do this quite naturally, without arousing suspicion. 10. While performing the above actions, tell the audience what you are doing, and placing the glass on the table, say: “Here is the glass in which lies my card, the seven of diamonds. Let’s leave it for a minute and move on to Anton’s card, which, we note, none of doesn't know us. You don't have to show it to me, Anton, but maybe you will take it and show it to the audience, but so that I don't know what kind of card it is." 11. However, you, of course, know what kind of card this is. While Anton is demonstrating it to the audience, take the deck and divide it into two halves, taking one in each hand, and prepare to make a pass with both halves of the deck. When Anton shows everyone his card, ask him to place it on the pile in your left hand, pass with two halves of the deck and immediately move on to false shuffle 1 or, if you prefer, alternating shuffles 3 and 4. Either way, the result is a six of spades should remain on top of the deck. 12. Now say: “Now comes the fun part. I’ll tell you what I’m going to do, and you won’t believe me.” While the audience is looking at your face, hide the six of spades from the top of the deck into your palm. Lowering your right hand with the six of spades, continue: “In the glass there is a seven of diamonds, chosen at random from a deck spread out like a fan. And here, in the deck (put the deck face down on the table), lies the card that Anton and Lyusya chose by removing the alternately shuffled deck "You know what the card is, but I don't. Believe it or not, I will make these cards switch places." 13. As you say this, as if by chance, put your hand in your pocket and put the six of spades you were holding in your pocket there. Now pat your fingers on the top of the deck lying on the table, saying: “Behave yourself, Anton card, whatever you are.” Touch your fingers to the top of the scarf and say: “And you, seven of diamonds, do not let me down.” 14. Then, with a spectacular movement (but carefully so as not to knock over the glass), remove the handkerchief. The six of spades will open. Peer into the glass to see it. Say: "So, six of spades. I think this is the card you chose, Anton?" Anton will agree that this one. 15. Tell him: “Do you believe that it left this deck (point to the deck on the table) and flew into the glass? Perhaps you think that there is another six of spades in the deck? Would you look through the deck to find it?” Anton flips through the deck and confirms that the six of spades has disappeared. 16. Say: “So, everyone saw me put the seven of diamonds in the glass. Can you confirm that the seven of diamonds flew back into the deck?” Anton flips through the deck and discovers the seven of diamonds. Say: "So, here they are: the six of spades and the seven of diamonds - two cards chosen at random, actually switched places. It's some kind of magic!" 17. Take the cards from Anton face up, place the fake six of spades on top (again, make sure no one sees the back of it), turn all the cards face down and put them in the box. Later, you can rescue the real six of spades from your pocket and rebuild your deck. Making double-sided cards You will naturally need to buy a second deck to make fake cards - make sure the second deck has the same design as the first. 1. Fill a plate with clean water, place the cards there and leave them overnight - each card should eventually split into two halves. 2. Place the halves on a flat cloth and let them dry. Don't try to speed up the process with a hair dryer to avoid warping the cards. 3. When the halves have dried well, you can glue them together as you wish. 4. If the cards have lost their shine after soaking, apply a little varnish to their surface and saturate them with a dry cloth.
