Focus Description:

The card is shown to the viewer and placed face down on the table, the second is placed on it. The first card is returned to the deck. The magician, flipping through the deck, makes two cards swap places.

Focus secret:

1. Ask the spectator to carefully shuffle the deck.

2. Take the deck from him, line it up and at the same time make a gap under the top two cards, allowing you to make a double rise. Tell the audience that you are going to do a little experiment in the art of making the cards swap places. Say, "For example, let's take the top card from the deck." Take, using the double lift, the top two cards, look at the card (this will be the second card from the top) and call it: "nine of clubs."

3. Show the cards to the audience and again place two cards on top of the deck.

4. Continue: "We'll put the nine of clubs on the table." Place the top card of the deck, which is certainly not the nine of clubs, face down on the table. Say, "Now let's take the second card from the deck." As you say this, prepare yourself for the second double lift you are about to do.

5. Now, as you know, the nine of clubs has become the top card of the deck. But when you take the top two cards with a double lift, you show the audience the next card after it - let it be a dozen of diamonds. Returning the two raised cards to the deck, say: "We will put the ten of diamonds on the table next to the nine of clubs." Taking the top card, that is, the nine of clubs, put it to the right of the first card at a distance of about 2,5 cm so that there is no confusion where which card is.

6. Say: "Now I will take the nine of clubs and put it back on top of the deck." Take the first card and put it on top of the deck. Tell the audience, "Now we have a nine of clubs on top of the deck and a ten of diamonds on the table. I'm going to have them switch places."

7. Holding the deck in your left hand, flip through the cards with your right. By saying something like "I think that's enough for my experiment - it's not that easy", you make a gap under the top two cards so that you can do a double lift a third time.

Demonstrating this trick, you do a double rise three times. This is a simple manipulation - you will master it easily if you practice - but for it you need to make a gap with your left little finger between the two top cards and the rest of the cards of the deck. You must do this before you say: "Let's take the top card of the deck." - because after these words, the public will watch how your hand takes the "top" card, and it will be too late to make a gap. Get into the habit of holding the deck in your left hand and aligning it with your right while talking to the audience. Then you can make a gap in advance and make a double raise almost before you tell the public that you want to show them the top card.

8. Raise the top two cards with a double raise and show them to the audience, saying: "If I did it, then it should be a ten of diamonds." When the audience sees that it is indeed a ten of diamonds, turn it around to see for yourself, and pretend to be pleased and relieved when you see that it is indeed a ten of diamonds. Put the two cards back on top of the pack, saying, "And of course, if the cards are actually reversed, the one on the table will be the nine of clubs." Pick it up and show it to the public so they can see it's true.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Science requires sacrifice 02.04.2003

Scientists are exposed to more stress at work than employees of commercial companies. This conclusion was reached by the authors of a psychological study conducted on more than 900 teachers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).

More than 60 percent of those surveyed say they feel emotionally and physically drained at the end of the working day, and 78 percent complain that no matter how hard they try, they don't get everything done in a day. For comparison: only half of the surveyed employees of various firms noted the same fatigue from work.

Two-thirds of MIT employees are dissatisfied with the hectic pace of their work and the intense stress they are exposed to. Two-thirds work 60-hour weeks or more, while in 1989 less than half had such busy work schedules.

More than 50 percent of respondents say that this stress has a bad effect on family life and relationships in the workforce. Women and those who do not have a permanent position, but work temporarily, under an employment contract that will not necessarily be extended, feel especially great stress.
