Focus Description:

The magician seats the volunteer in a chair. The viewer leans back, folds his arms over his chest and stretches his legs. The artist asks him to remain in this position for some time. Then he says loudly that he will not let him get up from the chair, only by touching his forehead with his finger. He places his finger on the subject's forehead and says, "You can't get up. You're powerless. Try to get up."

The subject tenses and makes every effort, but is unable to rise.

Finally, the magician says, "Now you can stand up," and removes his finger from his forehead. The subject easily rises from the chair.

Focus secret:

To successfully do this trick, you must first experiment with your friend to know the exact position. The subject's legs must be strictly extended, the head strongly thrown back, in fact, a reclining position. The participant of the trick must take such a position that he can then raise his head and get up from his chair; the legs must be extended, the body slightly tense for your "hypnotic power" to work.

Finger pressure is sufficient to hold the person in this position; but the pressure must be firm and applied strictly in the center of the forehead, so that the finger does not slip. Focus should not last more than a few seconds.

This is a very effective hypnotic trick and not difficult at all, but it takes practice to perform it confidently.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Optical fiber that works like the human nervous system 20.04.2022

Scientists from Singapore's Center for Disruptive Photonic Technology and the UK's Optoelectronics Research Center have created a working optical model of a neuron. To do this, they took advantage of the special properties of an amorphous alloy based on chalcogenides.

In fact, a new type of optical fiber was synthesized, capable of changing transparency. This makes it possible to provide conditions for the propagation of optical signals similar to those that exist in the human brain.

Using this property, the researchers achieved functionality that mimics the mechanism of signal propagation in axons and synapses, thereby proving that optical analogs of neurons can demonstrate functionality similar to the human brain.

The optical fiber for the experiment was made of amorphous glass, which is an alloy of gallium sulfide and lanthanum oxide. To emulate the functions of a chemical synapse, the fiber is alternately irradiated from the side with light of different wavelengths, causing a so-called photon synapse. As a result, scientists were able to reproduce the mechanism of chemical signal propagation in neurons.

In their work, researchers from Singapore have demonstrated a number of optical analogs of brain functions. Among them are the retention of the state of rest and the modeling of changes in the electrical activity in the nerve cell during its stimulation.

This study may contribute to increasing the speed and efficiency of traditional computer systems. With the advent of adaptation and learning mechanisms in new versions of computers, they will be able to process huge amounts of data with much less energy.

Modern computers simulating the work of nerve cells are 6-9 orders of magnitude less efficient than biological systems. For example, simulating a five-second brain activity takes 500 seconds of computer time and requires 1,4 megawatts of energy.
