Focus Description:

On the stage there is a small four-leaf screen with legs carved on it, and on top is a wooden box with a lid. Approach the box standing on the screen. A cage with a duck rolls out from behind the curtains. The duck is taken out of there and given to you. Lift the lid of the box and quickly lower the duck into it.

Then remove the lid from the box and one by one - all four walls, lift the bottom. After that, unfold the screen. The assistant takes all the parts of the box placed on the cage backstage. The duck is gone!

Focus secret:

For demonstration, you need a collapsible box consisting of six parts (bottom, lid, four side walls), a folding four-fold screen and a duck cage on rollers. The secret of the trick lies in the bottom of the duck sideboard box, where you hide it when you put it in the box. For the manufacture of such a "sideboard" (see. Fig.) You need a hard material - plywood or tin. But it is better to use a soft sideboard made of cloth or rubber 2 mm thick, made in the form of a bag.

The sideboard is not visible to the audience because of the sides of the screen. Removing the bottom (part of the box), you press it to yourself with the side on which the sideboard is made, and it also becomes invisible to the audience. When the bottom with the sideboard is placed on the cage (or on the hands of an assistant), it becomes invisible due to the upper sides of the cage. The lid, bottom and all walls of the box must be, like the screen, painted. This will help to hide the hatch in the bottom of the box and the sideboard.

During the demonstration of the trick, one must try so that the audience does not suspect that by lowering the duck into the box, they are hiding it somewhere. Having raised the lid of the box, lower your left hand there, as if supporting the lid, but in fact lift the hatch in the bottom of the box with it, opening the sideboard. Hold your right hand over the box and place the duck with it. When you put the duck in, quickly take your right hand out of the box, and with your left slam the sideboard hatch in the bottom of the box. After the lid of the box is closed, immediately begin to disassemble the box. First, remove the lid and carefully hand it to one of your assistants, then, picking up the pace, dismantle the sides of the box.

Raise the bottom and remove it from the screen, making sure that the sideboard is not visible to the audience. Of course, the duck's body is flat, so it takes up very little space in the bag. Quickly pass this part of the box to the assistant, and he, without looking at it, puts it on the cage. Other parts of the box are placed on top, and all this is quickly rolled (or carried away) backstage. At this time, more and more accelerating the pace, open the screen, show it from both sides and fold it, firmly pressing the sash to the sash.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Walruses do not have enough space in the sea 17.01.2011

In the northwest of Alaska, zoologists observe the mass transition of thousands of walruses to land.

Usually a walrus, having eaten mollusks and crayfish, which he collects at the bottom, lays down to digest food on floating ice. But this year, due to global warming, the ice has moved so far from the coast of Alaska that the pinniped giants have to congregate on suitable beaches. Since there are few convenient places on the coast, large concentrations of walruses are formed.

Local authorities fear that if there is a panic among the animals, walruses (each weighing about a ton) will pass each other. Therefore, the issue of transferring some air routes over Alaska is being considered in order not to frighten the walruses with the noise of aircraft.
