You have, of course, seen various glasses, as well as loupes, or magnifying glasses. All of them are lenses. When examining near or far objects through them, directing light, for example from the sun or a lamp, onto a screen, such as a board, you probably noticed some features of the lenses. Depending on the shape of the surfaces (convexity, concavity), each lens refracts rays differently and produces images of different sizes. In optics, lenses are transparent, polished bodies (most often made of glass), bounded by curved (most often spherical) surfaces.

Lenses

An imaginary line passing through the centers of the spherical surfaces is called the optical axis of the lens.

If the middle of the lens is thicker than the edge, then rays parallel to the axis, coming from a sufficiently distant object, can be received on the screen and combined at one point. This point is called the main focus. Such lenses will be called positive, or converging. More than once, of course, you have used a magnifying glass as a burning glass for burning patterns on a tree.

Lenses, in which the middle is thinner than the edge, always give a divergent beam of rays. Such lenses are called negative, or divergent. In a diverging lens, the focus is imaginary. It cannot be taken to the screen. The distance from the focus of the lens to the center of the lens is called the focal length.

Lenses

Having studied the properties of lenses and the eye, man has built perfect optical instruments - microscopes, telescopes, periscopes, cinemas and cameras.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The Metaverse may be worse than social networks 01.12.2021

Modern technologies are shifting towards virtual and augmented reality, creating space to accommodate the metaverse. Skeptics are negative about this trend and believe that the metaverse can lead to the end of the reality known to people. As the inventor of the first augmented reality system, Louis Rosenberg, suggests, the metaverse could be much worse than social networks.

Augmented Reality and the Metaverse seek to present content in the most natural way possible, thereby "changing the sense of reality", removing boundaries in people's minds and distorting the interpretation of everyday experience.

“Personally, it scares me. Augmented reality will radically change all aspects of society and not necessarily for the better,” Rosenberg explained.

According to the expert, social networks manipulate reality by filtering the content displayed to users. People are increasingly dependent on corporations to provide and maintain countless layers of technology between people and their daily lives.

As Rosenberg believes, augmented reality will become such an integral part of life that people will not be able to simply take off their augmented reality glasses and deal with real problems. Removing points means that a person will be at a disadvantage social, economic and intellectual position. Rosenberg urges everyone to be careful, as augmented reality can easily be used to split society and sow discord among people.
